Job Summary: The Machinist I, demonstrates the ability to perform simple machining repairs and tasks under direct supervision and is often a helper on most jobs while learning and developing technical skills. The incumbent in this position is expected to model the following practices daily: 1) Demonstrate alignment with the company's mission and core business values; 2) Collaborate with key internal/external resources; 3) Participate in ongoing self-development. Essential Functions: * Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT's Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission * Performs basic and simple machine tasks and repairs * Assists other Machinists in performing all types of machining operations to manufacture, modify, and repair machine parts, equipment, and components * Supports other Machinists with the work lay out, reading and interpreting blueprints and technical publications, designing, and drawing working sketches * Assists in other Machinists on all duties and tasks * Works as a member of a team to provide basic mechanical services that satisfies customer needs and achieves departmental goals * Works overtime as required by workload and customers' needs * Maintains all company equipment, tools, and work areas in a good, clean, and working order * Performs tasks under direct supervision and often helps other Machinists on large jobs * Adheres to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations * Requires regular and punctual employee attendance * Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards * Performs other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Basic knowledge of equipment and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance * Basic knowledge of current computer software and SIS * Excellent work habits, accuracy, attention to detail, and quality of work * Verbal and written communication skills * Ability to work independently and as part of a team * Ability to follow manufacturer and company installation and service guidelines to ensure quality work * Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, machine tools, and equipment to help perform the job * Ability to read ID and OD Mics * Ability to be self-starting and self-motivated * Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects * Ability to read, write, and understand information * Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences * Must own some basic tools to help perform repairs * Blueprint Basics * Safety Training and task training * Forklift Operator License * Ability to complete HOLT's VBL Classes, model HOLT's VBL Culture, and successfully apply the tools (Learn) Education and Experience: * High school diploma or equivalent, accreditation from a technical school or an applicable skilled trades program preferred * Up to one year of experience preferred Supervisory Responsibilities: None Travel: * Up to 10% travel may be required Physical Requirements: * Significant amount of time standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, stooping, climbing, and reaching * Constant movement and use of hands, this position requires good manual dexterity * Communicates with customers, service managers, and co-workers * Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work * Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue * Be able to maneuver safely and work underneath equipment * Frequently lifts and moves materials and equipment up to 50 lbs. * Ascends/descends with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbs up and down ladders and/or equipment Work Environment: * Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment * Regularly works indoors around moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to weather extremes when working outside in conditions that include inclement weather, heat, cold, and humidity * Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment * Works in an enclosed and open vehicle or equipment * Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high-speed rotating equipment * Works in extremely bright or inadequate lighting * Exposure to high noise levels and body vibration * Works in confined workspaces, awkward positions, and high places * Exposure to minor burns, cuts, bites, or stings Disclaimer: Please note that the above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this classification.
