Overview

Sierra Lobo, offers customers a full range of professional and technical capabilities, including Test and Evaluation, Systems Engineering, and Advanced Technologies. We also develop products and processes related to Cryogenic Fluid and Thermal Management Systems, Densified Propellant Management Systems, and Prototype Extreme Pressure and Temperature Systems. Our customers include the Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

This position will be located at NASA's White Sands Test Facility in Las Cruces, NM, in the Technical Services Department.

This is a modified full-time position (30+ hours per week)..

Responsibilities

This hybrid role in the Technical Services Department Publications Group combines technical writing/editing and project leadership responsibilities including financial management and project coordination. This multifaceted role is estimated to be 80% publications work and 20% project leadership requiring a multifaceted and ambitious candidate.

The Technical Writer/Editor creates, edits, and maintains technical documentation, including job instructions, test reports, manuals, and other materials for sitewide use. Working closely with peers, management, subject matter experts, and internal and external customers, the Technical Editor/Writer communicates complex ideas efficiently and effectively in order to complete documents under tight deadlines. Other duties may include reviewing and/or copyediting worked developed by peers. Knowledge of various style guides, citations, trademarks, export control, and records management will be needed to conduct background research, prepare, conduct interviews, and analyze information. Duplicating equipment will be used to produce of a variety of printed copy such as flyers, badges, documents, or reports.

Project Lead responsibilities include planning, budget preparation and reporting, estimating, and multiple project coordination. It requires reporting project health (schedule, budget, and resources) and status to management and customers. May serve as a backup to the department performance analyst.



Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Technical Communications, Professional Writing, or similar field with an emphasis in science, technology, or computer-related disciplines.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of progressive experience in technical writing, editing, or comparable field. Relevant education may be substituted for progressive experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strong knowledge of document design, layout, and publishing standards.
  • Demonstrated experience in project leadership, including budget and schedule management.
  • Ability to operate office duplicating equipment (Xerox printer).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Visio, SharePoint), Adobe Suite (Acrobat DC, InDesign, Photoshop), and Microsoft Project. Experience using web-based data management systems and content creation is a plus.
  • Ability to pass a software proficiency assessment as part of the hiring process.
  • Electronic portfolio of writing/editing samples required at time of application.
