Hydraulic Engineer (Mid-Level)

Responsibilities:

• Perform field assessments, stream and fluvial characterization; hydrologic data collection and water quality and sediment sampling; familiarity of stream and coastal geomorphologic processes.
• Perform engineering analysis, design, and report writing tasks.
• Perform hydrologic, hydraulic, and sediment transport analyses; erosion and scour analyses; and FEMA floodplain mapping and modeling.
• Design and develop plans, construction costs, and specifications for habitat restoration and hydraulic structures including channels, ponds, levees, bank protection, scour protection, grade control, fish passage design of culvert and bridges, streambed materials, log jams, and tide gate structures.
• Provide construction observation and technical support to clients.
• Provide project and task management services.
• Develop proposals and manage scope of services, budgets, and schedules.
• Provide marketing, proposal, and client development services.
• Follow Shannon & Wilson's Quality Assurance policy.
• Follow and promote Shannon & Wilson's Health & Safety policy and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in civil/hydraulic engineering
• 7 to 14 years of relevant experience as hydraulic/civil engineer.
• Professional Engineering (P.E.) license in Washington State.
• Course work one or more of the following areas: open channel hydraulics and environmental river mechanics, sediment transport, fluvial and/or coastal geomorphology, coastal hydraulics, hydraulic structures, hydrology, civil design, project and construction management, and survey.
• Software experience including AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley (Open Roads Designer), and Arc-GIS.
• Hydrologic modeling experience with HEC-1 and/or HEC-HMS, MGS Flood, WWHM, HSPF, TR-55, TR-21, FFEQ, and SBUH.
• Hydraulic modeling experience with HEC-RAS 1D/2D, HY-8, and SMS SRH-2D.
• Creative individual with seller-doer outlook and client service focus.
• Ability to be self-directed and operate as a team member.
• Excellent writing, organizational, and communication skills.
• Personable, flexible, and professional demeanor.
• The ability to work independently with the appropriate level of OR minimal supervision.
• The willingness and ability to travel to support the needs of other Shannon & Wilson offices.
• A valid driver license and insurable driving record.
• Foundational experience with Microsoft Office 365 (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint [required]); MS Access (desirable).
• Critical thinking and analysis.
• Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying 30+ pounds.
• Working in all weather conditions, on uneven terrain.
• The ability to travel (drive or fly) to field sites per project needs and job sites locally and out of state.
• The ability to get a pass for access to military facilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree in civil engineering.
• Hydrologic modeling experience with WMS
• Hydraulic modeling experience with RMA2, FLO-2D or River-FLO2D, and Coastal Modeling using SMS, ADCIRC, STWAVE, TUFLOW.

Level Placement

Typically, depending on an applicant's education, experience, other qualifications they possess, if they are a fit for the company and local office culture, and the current business needs, a Mid-Level Hydraulic Engineer typically would be placed at a Shannon & Wilson Senior Professional I, II, or III level.

Compensation:

Senior Professional I: $105,000 - $120,000

Senior Professional II: $115,000 - $130,000

Senior Professional III: $125,000 - $140,000
