Position Summary

DEFINITION

Under supervision of the appropriate administrator, the incumbent helps to plan, organize, develop, and implement the coordination of Career Center programs, services and special events, while valuing and promoting the mission and vision of the college.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

Under minimal supervision, the incumbent performs technical duties with a considerable degree of independence and has a high frequency of contacts with students on campus, K-12 students, volunteers, college staff, faculty, administrators, and the general public.


Essential Functions and Qualifications

  1. Provides information and presentations regarding the district and the Career Center programs and services to students, staff, faculty, departments, community partners and schools.
  2. Provides student and faculty support by assisting Career Center students and student workers with career exploration, career readiness training, assessment and career coaching partnership with Career Center Counselors.
  3. Assists with direct support for career related events, programs and services targeting college and high school student participants.
  4. Serves as the on-campus Career Center Liaison and primary point of contact in assisting with special events, student clubs and activities.
  5. Assists in establishing new student-centered career related opportunities that enhance career readiness in students.
  6. Assists Career Counselors with tracking student progress as needed.
  7. Serves as the primary scheduler for Career Center programs, events and activities by managing the in-house scheduling board and digital calendar.
  8. Works with Public Affairs on content for Career Center social media accounts/postings that promote current programs and services supported by the Career Center.
  9. Serves as the internal technology representative for the Career Center as the college adopts and adapts to future technology,
  10. Supports the Skills USA Leadership Club within the Career Center. Recruits, supports and plans Skills USA events in collaboration with CTE programs on campus; may assist CTSO, CTE, and Leadership students wishing to compete in CTSO competitions.
  11. Initiates and cultivates verbal, written and print/marketing communications between students, Career Center faculty/staff in securing career readiness training opportunities.
  12. Assists with the planning, organizing and implementing of annual career exploration day and other large-scale events sponsored and or supported by the Career Center.
  13. Assists other Career Center staff in developing, maintaining, and updating Career Center Policies and Procedures for student workers and other Career Center related programs.
  14. Assists with the development and implementation of CTE Junior Day and other CTE specific events in collaboration with Career Center Staff and CTE Faculty.
  15. May assists in reviewing and analyzing continuous program improvement and evaluation activities. Makes recommendations for needed Career Center resources.
  16. In alignment with Career Counseling services and Career Center Staff, assist with improving center efficiencies and seamless services for students to transition in and out of.
  17. Monitor and provide direction to assigned Career Center student workers, interns and volunteers as needed.
  18. May assist in providing weekly, monthly, and annual reports and updates to internal and external stakeholders as requested. Conducts research practices related to Career Center best practices as needed.
  19. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Demonstrated Ability to:

  • Maintain professional integrity, confidentiality, respect, and other ethical standards;
  • Actively listen and understand the needs of students;
  • Plan, organize, and complete assigned work independently and within established time deadlines;
  • Organize workload and establish priorities with attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Learn and interpret specific rules, law, and policies and apply them with good judgement in a variety of procedural situations;
  • Operate a computer and perform clerical and technical work with accuracy and speed;
  • Establish and maintain office records and files;
  • Compose and proofread correspondence independently;
  • Handle confidential student information with tact, discretion and in compliance with FERPA regulations.

Working Conditions:

  • Duties are performed in office environments, on school campuses and at local business and industry work sites in the community.
  • The incumbent will experience interruptions while performing normal duties during the regular workday.
  • The incumbent will have contact, in person, by email, or by telephone with staff, students, business and industry liaisons and the general public.
  • The incumbent will primarily work in the identified Career Center locations. Special Events, training and meetings may require incumbent to travel within the state of California and potentially out of state.

Physical Demands:

  • Typically may stand or sit for extended periods of time
  • Regularly lifts, carries, and/or moves objects weighing up to 10 pounds;
  • Operates a computer and or technological devices;
  • Communicates over the telephone, by email, and in person;
  • Travels throughout the county, region and state as needed;
  • Participates in learning activities, special events and community-based projects.

Special Qualification:

A sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and to staff and students with disabilities.



Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Associate degree required in a related field with coursework related to career counseling, psychology, sociology, social work, and or human services; a bachelor's degree is preferred. A minimum of 2 years' experience in job placement, career counseling, or related field OR any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Licenses and Certificates Required:

  • Must possess a valid California Driver's License at the time of hire.

Additional Information

This position is categorically funded, contingent on continued funding.

The desired start date is August 2025. This is a full-time, 37-hour, classified, 12-month position.

Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
