Reporting to the Controller, the Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing and managing production costs to ensure operational efficiency and financial profitability. The Cost Accountant will monitor and report on costs related to materials, labor, and overhead, providing detailed variance analysis and insights for decision-making. This role also involves maintaining accurate inventory valuations, preparing budgets, and supporting cost-saving initiatives. The Cost Accountant will collaborate across teams to optimize processes and ensures compliance with internal controls and financial regulations.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Perform detailed analysis of production costs, including materials, labor, and overhead, and compare them to standard costs or budgets.
  • Identify, investigate, and explain variances between actual costs and standard costs, providing actionable insights to management.
  • Oversee inventory accounting, ensuring accurate valuations of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods while reconciling discrepancies.
  • Establish and maintain standard cost systems, updating them to reflect changes in production methods or market conditions.
  • Generate periodic cost reports that track trends, highlight variances, and assess the impact on financial performance.
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop cost budgets and forecasts, ensuring alignment with company objectives.
  • Work closely with production teams to identify inefficiencies and recommend process improvements to reduce costs and enhance profitability.
  • Maintain compliance with financial regulations and provide support during internal or external audits by preparing accurate cost-related documentation.
  • Offer cost insights to management for decisions related to pricing, resource allocation, and operational strategies.
  • Coordinate inventory cycle count program, audit results, and ensure overall program compliance
  • Provide support for the Site's Inventory reporting requirements and reduction efforts
  • Perform month end financial close process for manufacturing operations such as month end journal entries and reconciliations

EDUCATION: BS/BA in Accounting or Finance.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years of professional accounting experience, preferably with a focus on cost accounting or financial analysis.
  • Previous work experience in a manufacturing or production environment is required.
  • Proficiency in cost analysis, variance analysis, standard costing, and inventory reconciliation.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and cost drivers, including raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods.
  • Familiarity with IT systems as they relate to financial functions and operational areas.
  • Microsoft office skills, particularly strong in Excel.
  • Experience supporting internal or external audits, particularly in cost-related areas.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including finance, operations, and management.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, talk, and/or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
