The EHS Associate in Michigan Center, MI reports to the EHS Manager and will provide technical environmental, sustainability and ISO 14001 support and ensure compliance with federal, state and local environmental regulations. This position is responsible for compliance with environmental laws, regulations, and standards and will work to mitigate the environmental impacts of industrial activities, construction projects, and other operations. The EHS Specialist has oversight of site environmental permits, permitting activities, conducting environmental inspections and audits, preparing reports, implementing compliance strategies and for the site solid waste management program and coordinated activities to ensure proper disposal of waste materials. The EHS Specialist will act as the liaison between the organization and regulatory agencies, ensuring that all environmental policies are followed.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement environmental compliance programs

  • Ensure compliance with site permits and written site environmental plans

  • Maintain records of environmental compliance activities

  • Acts as liaison in with government agencies including inspections, audits and information requests

  • Prepare and submit compliance reports to regulatory agencies

  • Conduct environmental inspections, audits and assessments

  • Develop and implement EHS training programs for site personnel

  • Monitor and analyze environmental data to ensure adherence to regulations

  • Review, update, and renew environmental permits and licenses as required

  • Investigate environmental incidents and recommend corrective actions

  • Maintain proficiency in environmental laws and regulations

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to design environmentally friendly solutions

  • Maintains site ISO 14001 program and certification

  • Manages site solid waste program and activities to ensure proper disposal

Minimum Requirements

  • 3+ years' experience in manufacturing and environmental compliance.

  • Strong knowledge of Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act (NPDES, Stormwater and SPCC)

  • Knowledge of solid waste, SARA, TSCA, and DOT regulations

  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 program management

  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams

  • Strong organization and analytical skills to organize, analyze, and disseminate information.

  • Excellent verbal, written and persuasive skills to interact with line employees and management, works well independently and as part of a team

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to walk around the facility daily

Preferred Requirements

  • Able to pass and maintain DOT General Awareness Training Certificate

  • Knowledge of Michigan Environmental, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE)

  • Experience with an eLearning Systems

  • Union experience

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, and geographic location.

The salary for this role is $65,000 - $78,000.
