SPECIAL AGENT-WEST TENNESSEE Department of Correction Office of Investigation and Conduct: Security Threat Intelligence Unit Salary Range: $5,591 - $8,915 monthly Jackson, Tennessee Closing Date: 06/02/2025

Who we are and what we do:

The Tennessee Department of Correction operates and oversees 14 adult prisons across the state, housing some 21,000 offenders. In the community, TDOC supervises 79,000 offenders on probation, parole, or community corrections. The department operates 44 probation/parole offices in 13 districts across the state. The Tennessee Department of Correction operates safe and secure prisons and provides effective community supervision in order to enhance public safety.

How to make a difference in this role:

The TDOC Special Agent position is assigned to the Office of Investigations and Conduct (OIC) Security Threat Group (STG) and is the law enforcement branch of the TDOC.

Job Overview:

The Special Agent possesses statewide law enforcement authority to conduct both criminal and administrative investigations of offenses relative to or affecting the TDOC. Primary Functions will be investigations and intelligence related to Criminal Street Gangs, Prison Gangs, and other Security Threat Groups supervised by TDOC.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct criminal and administrative investigations to include making criminal arrests and serving outstanding criminal warrants and summons related to Criminal Street Gangs, Prison Gangs, and other Security Threat Groups supervised by the TDOC
  • Prepares affidavits for criminal search warrants and or administrative subpoenas
  • Appear in court to give testimony
  • Proficient report writer and above-average knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, especially in hostile or stressful situations
  • Assist other law enforcement agencies by providing information and assisting in criminal investigations related to Criminal Street Gangs, Prison Gangs or Security Threat Groups
  • Willing to be assigned to undercover operations for the TDOC and other law enforcement agencies as assigned
  • Must be able to respond immediately to major crimes and incidents, including unexpected overtime and potential overnight trips
  • On call 24 hours to include weekends, holidays, and overnight stays. Be available on short notice and accept unexpected overtime
  • Willing to attend and successfully complete all training requirements and academies, to include, but not limited to: Tennessee Correction Academy, Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Basic Criminal Investigation School, Reid Interview and Interrogation, firearms qualification course, Digital Forensic Examiner Course, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of experience as a police officer, correction, or probation/parole officer. Police officer candidates must be POST certified. Non-police officer candidates must be able and willing to attend a certified law enforcement academy and become POST certified.
Substitution of Experience for Education: Experience performing criminal investigation work in a government setting, law enforcement, professional criminal law, and /or similar related field may substitute

  • All applicants must be a U.S. Citizen, 21 years of age, and possess a valid Tennessee drivers license at the time of hire.
  • Applicants must successfully pass a structured interview, meet medical and psychological qualifications, and complete a background investigation.
  • Applicants must be willing to and able to qualify with, carry, and use assigned weapons.
  • Candidate must participate in pre-employment, random and all other drug and substance abuse testing as required by departmental policies and procedures.
