Applications are invited from highly motivated and qualified candidates for the position of Associate Research Scientist in the research group of Prof. Kartik Chandran, Department of Earth and Environmental Engineering, Columbia University.

The successful applicant will have a Ph.D. (or equivalent) followed by around five-year post-doctoral research experience on directions closely related to bioelectrochemical systems and technologies, or a related field. Specific activities include but are not limited to the following:



  • * Lead the development and preparation of scheduled research deliverables and reports, in conjunction with undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral researchers
  • * Organize and coordinate periodic internal meetings within the research group and external meetings with collaborators and program sponsors
  • * Lead the development and submission of proposals, applications and publications


Desirable qualifications and skills include the following:



  • * Reliable and able to work in a self-guided manner, and care for multiple priorities while meeting demanding timelines
  • * Detail oriented and able to perform work accurately and thoroughly
  • * Excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
  • * Excellent software skills (Microsoft Suite, organizational and scheduling software related to research productivity, among others), including a demonstrated ability to convey complex information using supporting tables, graphs, and other visual representations.
