Job Summary

The Senior Equipment Operator, under the general direction of the Director, will provide motor vehicle transportation for Alzheimer's research study participants. Research subjects need round-trip transportation from their homes in Northern California to various medical facilities in Sacramento, Martinez, the East Bay, and San Francisco.

The incumbent will also be responsible for escorting participants to their appointments for PET and MRI scans, physical and neuropsychological\ exams, lab tests, and ensuring they registered and under the supervision of appropriate personnel.

Additionally, the incumbent will also be responsible for ensuring an assigned vehicle is maintained in excellent operating condition, contacting and scheduling appointments for patients with research facilities, and assisting clinic staff\with administrative duties.

This position is located in Walnut Creek.

Minimum Qualifications

  • CPR Training and Certification (within 90 days of hire)
  • First Aid Training (within one calendar year of hire)
  • Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
  • No minimum education requirements
  • Recent work-related experience in an independent or team environment role.
  • Must be able to be flexible and responsive to changing schedules or priorities.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate English both orally and in written form.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain composure, respond calmly, and use sound judgment and appropriate decisions, should a medical emergency occur during a patient transport.
  • Ability to recognize when patients may be confused, upset, incoherent, or agitated.
  • Must be able to securely operate wheelchair equipment to safely transfer patient from vehicle to a wheelchair.
  • Knowledge of proper body mechanics and patient transfer techniques and skill to transport patients without injury to self, patient, or others.
  • Interpersonal skills to deal in a tactful, courteous, pleasant, and professional manner with patients, visitors, and other clinic staff which includes individuals with various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds.
  • Must be punctual, reliable, organized and efficient.
  • Must have computer skills to communicate effectively via email and plan trips using mapping applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 year experience working as a medical transport professional
  • Experience transporting patients who may be impaired or not ambulatory is preferred.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
