Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The mission of Student Health Services is to provide collaborative health care designed to empower students to develop lifelong skills that enhance their physical, psychological, and wellness status in an inclusive and affirming environment.

Position Summary
The Billing and Coding Specialist is responsible for accurately assigning diagnostic and procedural codes to medical services provided at Student Health Services, supporting timely and accurate billing and reimbursement processes. This role ensures compliance with current coding guidelines, regulatory requirements, and internal policies. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, familiar with billing systems or clearinghouses, and comfortable working with electronic health records and coding software. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential, as the position supports providers, staff, and leadership in maintaining the integrity of documentation and revenue processes.
Minimum Qualifications

BACHELOR'S DEGREE AND ONE YEAR OF EXPERIENCE RELATED TO THE AREA OF ASSIGNMENT; OR EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE. ALL DEGREES MUST BE RECEIVED FROM APPROPRIATELY ACCREDITED INSTITUTIONS.

Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates

  • Certificate in Medical Coding or an Associate's degree in Medical Coding
  • Knowledge of HIPAA

Preferred Qualifications

  • Health Information and Electronic Health Record experience
  • College or public Health experience
