Production Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY:

Position makes decisions regarding where to make purchases and what price is best (within guidelines). Will also make decisions concerning when and how to have items shipped to meet plant needs. Must be able to make judgments so that production will have the rollstock that is needed. Will need to solve problems concerning orders so that appropriate items are received on schedule. Should consult with Plant Manager on anything complex, unusual or out of price guidelines.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Responsible for purchasing plant supplies, including raw materials, repair parts, operating supplies, shipping supplies and office supplies.
  • Oversee inventory movements, ensuring that correct outlines are entered and up to date.
  • Handle major items purchasing at Brownsville plant.
  • Review current and prospective vendors in order to make sure that price, quality, timeliness of shipping, and availability are competitive and will meet our needs.
  • Control plant waste in assigned areas.
  • Monitor usage of office supplies and make sure we order when necessary to have enough in stock at the plant.
  • Obtain approval for purchase orders from Plant Manager when necessary.
  • Place order for supplies or parts as indicated on requisition form, ensuring that they are ordered correctly and obtained on time.
  • Negotiate prices for machinery for production.
  • Handles leases for office machinery.
  • Maintain receipts and other paperwork for accounts payable area.
  • Maintain files on all items purchased.
  • Other miscellaneous duties as assigned by management.



SKILLS/ POSITION REQUIREMENTS:



  • Should have good communication skills in order to understand and relay appropriate information to vendors.
  • Should be able to calculate and compare prices, discounts, etc. and keep all purchase orders and requisitions in order.
  • Should be capable of ensuring that rollstock is received and maintained as needed by the plant.
  • Should be able to obtain basic familiarity with machine parts, tools, and office equipment to order replacement parts and supplies when needed.
  • Should have basic typing and computer knowledge to maintain records on computer.
  • Should have good math and record-keeping skills in order to work with pricing and ordering of supplies.



EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma/ with 1 years of experience in accounting, business administration, purchasing or related field.

Associate or Bachelor's degree Preferred.

ERRORS AND THEIR CONSEQUENCES:

Errors can involve ordering wrong merchandise, failing to order merchandise or not ordering on schedule. Not keeping abreast of pricing and quality of vendors can lead to waste of company money, wrong items, items not in stock or incorrect pricing on invoices. Not having adequate rollstock could lead to production slowdown, money loss and dissatisfied customers.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:

May be exposed to heat, dust, dirt, fumes and noise due to factory setting.
