Description
Position: Lead Warehouse Specialist
Department: Transportation/Warehouse
Reports to: Distribution Center Manager

To perform a variety of warehouse duties and responsibilities to ensure the consistent flow and accurate documenting of materials throughout the donated goods and retail division. Duties vary and Warehouse Specialists may be assigned to assist drivers, work within warehouse/workshops, handle baling duties, and move materials with forklifts along with utilizing hand and other power equipment while keeping accurate records both with manual sheets and/or Warehouse Management System (WMS) scanning equipment. Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead a crew of up to fifteen (15) employees and lead crew with warehouse operations. This includes but not limited to assigning duties to Warehouse Specialist and Warehouse Specialist II staff to ensure the goals for the day are met.
- Ability to open warehouse and run shift in absence of Distribution Center Coordinator or Distribution Center Manager.
- Works with SAP systems and ability to pull store orders, investigate inventory and make needed changes.
- Safe forklift operations to include, but not be limited to:
- Review and confirm all pre shift inspections are complete and report any defects; ensure all batteries are properly watered; and perform observations of staff operating powered industrial equipment to ensure proper certification of staff.
- Performs general dock operation to include, but not be limited to:
- Loading and unloading trucks using forklifts and other power equipment; follow load sequence for outbound trailers and properly disperse inbound materials; keep dock area free and clear of all furniture, bags, etc. for safe maneuvering of equipment; keep accurate records detailing material movement using both WMS and/or manual tracking; ensure proper loading procedures to ensure load stability and weight distribution; accurately completes truck manifests and load diagrams.
- Daily performs the following duties to include, but not be limited to:
- Police the property; pick up trash around the building and grass areas; empty trash; sweep dock area; weed grounds around facility; snow and ice removal; outside maintenance and lawn care.
- Assists the baler operation to include, but not be limited to:
- Weighs and stores bales; records necessary information; maintaining supplies; removes all bale bins from processing and take to baler; return all containers to the proper place in the processing department. May move salvage materials and load onto trucks.
- May be assigned to lead team on special assignments as required.
- Assists the Loss Prevention department in asset protection activities.
- Presents an appropriate appearance and good customer service to the general public and coworkers.
- Promotes an environment of workplace safety. Assures that duties are performed in a safe manner and safety requirements are adhered to.
- Communicates progress, problems, and concerns to the Distribution Center Manager.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- No formal education necessary.
Skills/Abilities/Qualifications
- Must present a neat appearance and have the ability to communicate effectively with general public as well as interdepartmental communication.
- Must have at least 18 months of experience in warehouse environment.
- Past leadership is not required but is preferred.
- Must have current certification for powered industrial equipment with 6 months verifiable experience as well as demonstrate skills with Powered Industrial Equipment of multiple types including Forklift, Stackers, Walk Behind Jacks.
- Must be able to work with power equipment such as forklift, pallet jacks, trash compactors, balers, and operate equipment following all safety guidelines at all times.
- Must have the flexibility to work overtime and varied hours to include Saturdays and Sundays.
- This is a safety sensitive position and employee must:
- Pass a drug test pre-hire, post-accident or work-related injury
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in all weather extremes.
- Ability to work around dust, dirt, fumes and varied noise levels.
- Ability to walk and stand for a full day.
- Ability to stand continuously for more than 75% of the shift.
- Ability to climb, stoop, crouch, reach, and bend.
- Ability to bend, kneel and stoop to open and close doors and secure loads for 10% of the shift.
- Ability to lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to push and pull various carts requiring a force of 50 pounds a distance of 150 feet for 25% of the shift.
- Ability to push and pull manual pallet jacks with gaylords or other material requiring an initial force of 60 pounds and distance of 100 feet for 25% of the shift.
- Ability to push and pull the speed lift requiring an initial force of 60 pounds a distance of 20 feet up to four times per shift.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds from ground level to waist level frequently for more than 75% of the shift.
- Ability to lift 75 pounds from ground level to waist level once per shift.
- Ability to step up 24 inches at a time onto forklifts and/or truck cab steps for 10% of the shift.
- Visual and hearing acuity (with correction) that meets standard vision and hearing test criteria.
