Reporting to the Sr. Director, Content & Creative, this role leads the Brand design team, including mentorship and direct management of three designers, including a Lead Designer specializing in video, motion graphics, and front-end website design. The Design Director comfortably balances strategic delegation and hands-on design leadership, ensuring design excellence throughout the company.

This role oversees high-impact design projects-such as customer stories, videos, animations, website experiences, the annual impact report, and GTM campaigns-as well as ongoing production and templated work. Key responsibilities include evolving and managing Bonterra's visual identity system, including logo architecture and design systems, ensuring cohesion and flexibility across a growing family of brands.

As a Director, Creative Design, you will champion inclusive, accessible design principles, ensuring visual work aligns with Bonterra's values and usability standards. You will collaborate extensively with marketing, content, product, and executive teams to align creative outputs with business goals. This role is pivotal in evolving Bonterra's design language, maintaining a modern, compelling, and effective brand presence across all company initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of three designers, including a Lead Designer focused on video and motion graphics.

  • Oversee high-concept and high-volume design work, including campaigns, customer stories, annual reports, videos, website designs, and social assets.

  • Serve as a quality control checkpoint, ensuring brand consistency, accessibility, and excellence.

  • Translate strategic ideas into actionable design concepts during internal sprints and collaborative sessions.

  • Own and evolve Bonterra's brand design system, including visual identity, logo architecture, and website design guidelines.

  • Ensure all deliverables meet accessibility standards (e.g., color contrast, readability, hierarchy) and support inclusive experiences.

  • Manage external design vendor relationships and maintain quality standards for outsourced work.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, content, product, and leadership to ensure alignment with strategic goals.

  • Participate in and lead internal design sprints to foster innovation and creativity.

  • Streamline and optimize creative workflows on project management platforms.

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in graphic, conceptual, and production design, including direct experience managing video and motion graphics.

  • 3+ years in a leadership role within a creative team or agency environment.

  • Experience designing for technology, software, or SaaS brands preferred.

  • Strong understanding of accessibility principles in design (e.g., WCAG guidelines, typography legibility, alt text use).

  • Expertise with industry-standard tools such as Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and familiarity with front-end design considerations.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to design excellence across platforms.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills, capable of articulating creative concepts clearly to stakeholders and executives.

  • Curious, collaborative, and receptive to feedback, fostering continuous learning and growth.

What Success Looks Like:

Within 6-12 months, success will be measured by enhanced visual quality, accessibility, and consistency across Bonterra's key touch points, successful mentorship and growth of the design team (particularly in video and website design), and strengthened cross-functional relationships. You will have elevated the creative standard of projects like the annual impact report, evolved brand guidelines, refined logo systems, and implemented comprehensive accessibility practices, contributing meaningfully to the continued evolution of Bonterra's brand identity.
