Job Overview

As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (COM) has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients. In partnership with the UC Health academic healthcare system and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, College of Medicine's faculty are transforming the world of medicine every day.

The UC Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Cincinnati has been an independent academic unit within the College of Medicine since 1984. It is responsible for the medical direction of the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Center for Emergency Care (CEC) and the Emergency Medicine Residency Training Program.

The College of Medicine, Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking to fill a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant position. This position will provide emergent care in the emergency setting.

Essential Functions

  • Performs a physical exam based upon age and patient history as per the Standard Care Arrangement with a collaborating physician.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates laboratory tests and other diagnostic studies to assess patient's clinical problems and health care needs.
  • Develops a treatment plan in collaboration with the physician and members of the multidisciplinary care team.
  • May prescribe and monitor medications as allowed by state and University of Cincinnati Medical Center prescriptive authority.
  • Actively participate in research relative to area of specialty.
  • Actively develop and participate in providing evidence-based education presentations and other learning activities for varied disciplines.
  • Participate in Medical Team Rounds.
  • Actively involved with Quality Management, data collection and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Other activities and/or duties assigned to achieve the overall mission of the position within the Department.

Minimum Requirements

Nurse Practitioner:

Required Education
Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program.
Required Trainings/Certifications



  • Active Ohio APRN license with prescriptive authority.
  • Active Board Certification in appropriate nursing specialty.


Required Experience



  • Three (3) years nursing experience.
  • Additional related work experience may be required depending on specialty/sub-specialty.

Physician Assistant:

Required Education
Master's Degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
Required Trainings/Certifications



  • Active Ohio Physician Assistant license with prescriptive authority.
  • Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

Additional related work experience may be required depending on specialty/sub-specialty.
