The Shipping & Receiving Supervisor plays a key leadership role in coordinating the accurate and timely flow of goods in and out of the facility. This is an onsite role in Woodland, CA that reports to the Plant Manager. In addition to supervising logistics operations, you will lead daily tier meetings, coach frontline material handlers in Lean thinking, and drive continuous improvement in shipping accuracy, dock efficiency, and OTIF performance. You will be expected to role-model problem-solving behaviors and drive sustainable improvements through coaching, standardization, and visual management.

This role is onsite in Woodland, CA, and will report to the Plant Manager.

You Will:

  • Directly supervise 8-12 employees in the Shipping & Receiving Department.
  • Schedule and expedite appropriate transportation to comply with shipping deadlines.
  • Communicate with Corporate Transport to pursue the lowest possible freight rates.
  • Plan layout of yard sections and storage areas based on item turnover, size, and weight.
  • Manage the shipment and receipt of goods to meet internal and external delivery requirements.
  • Ensure accurate bills of lading, packing lists, and shipping documentation.
  • Maintain clean, organized racking and floor storage areas with a focus on minimizing hazards.
  • Investigate and resolve shipping issues (e.g., overages, shortages, misroutes).
  • Maintain and verify UPCs and labeling accuracy for outbound materials.
  • Collaborate daily with Planning and Materials teams to align shipping with production needs.

Lean & Continuous Improvement Responsibilities

  • Lead Tier 1 Daily Management huddles for the Shipping & Receiving team, ensuring visibility into OTIF, shipping errors, and freight metrics.
  • Use Lean tools to reduce waste in loading/unloading, dock-to-stock time, and freight spend.
  • Facilitate problem-solving activities with material handlers using 5-Why and A3 templates.
  • Drive standard work development for shipping, receiving, labeling, and material flow processes.
  • Maintain visual CI boards in the department to track KPIs, actions, and team-led improvements.
  • Support cross-functional kaizen events to improve warehouse flow and reduce delays.
  • Analyze and improve freight and carrier management processes using data.
  • Model and teach visual management, 5S, and flow principles in dock operations.
  • Metrics & Reporting
  • Monitor and report performance metrics including OTIF, cycle time, and shipping accuracy.
  • Collaborate with CI and operations teams to develop corrective actions for KPI gaps.
  • Track performance trends and coach team members in understanding the "why" behind key metrics.

You Have:

  • Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
  • 3+ years of related experience in logistics, distribution, or warehouse supervision.
  • Working knowledge of transportation, warehouse management systems, and supply chain concepts.
  • Familiarity with palletizing, load balancing, shrink-wrap, and shipping compliance requirements for major retail accounts.
  • Forklift certification (in-house or external).
  • Strong computer literacy with MS Office, ERP/mainframe systems, and warehouse software tools.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop frontline teams.
  • Experience with Lean tools such as 5S, Standard Work, Visual Management, and Tiered Meetings is strongly preferred.

Salary Information:

  • 74,000- 86,000; up to 10% bonus

While performing the responsibilities of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, talk, and/or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, and use their hands to finger, handle, or feel. You must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work in both office and manufacturing environments. May occasionally be required to perform job responsibilities outside the typical office setting.
