Primary Purpose of Department
The Office of University Development's primary purpose is one of service and fund raising. These efforts include working closely with the divisions and departments requiring fundraising for special projects to increase private giving to the University. The Office of University Development is within the division of University Advancement.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Development Officer is responsible for identifying, cultivating and soliciting alumni, parents, friends of UNC Charlotte, and community members for philanthropic support. This position will manage a portfolio of prospects and donors capable of making gifts between $1,000 - $10,000 annually.
Summary of Position Responsibilities

  • The Development Officer is responsible for managing a portfolio of 250-300 prospective donors, capable of making commitments of $1,000 - $10,000 annually.
  • The Development Officer will conduct 144 in-person meetings annually with qualified prospects.
  • Through personal visits, e-solicitations, special events, etc. the Development Officer will establish a relationship with prospective donors and will qualify and solicit them based on their ability and propensity to make a gift at the leadership level and/or a major gift.
  • The Development Officer will be responsible for designing and executing strategies to effectively identify, cultivate, solicit and steward the prospective donors at the leadership level.
  • The Development Officer will maintain complete and accurate records of contacts, proposal status, call reports and stewardship activities.
  • The Development Officer will support volunteers and volunteer groups that support fundraising initiatives and identified areas of support.
  • The Development Officer will work in concert with the prospect management team identification and donor movement.
  • The Development Officer will develop strong working relationships with the Annual Giving team and will provide leadership and coordination for Niner Nation Gives.

Minimum Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 2-5 years experience in fundraising, nonprofit management, higher education, sales, marketing, development, business administration, project management, or relationship management.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Proven track record of securing four and five figure philanthropic gifts.
  • Comfortability with cold calling and scheduling stakeholder appointments.
  • Proven track record of working with volunteers.
  • Team-oriented, self-starter who can proactively work and manage complex tasks.
  • Proficiency in using fundraising databases and software.
