Description

SUMMARY

Hallmark Media is seeking a strategic and results-driven Senior Director Financial Planning & Analysis to lead financial oversight and analysis of our content investments, monetization and organization. Reporting to the VP, FP&A this role will provide financial leadership across content strategy, acquisition, development, and production. The Sr. Director will partner closely with creative, programming, production finance and distribution teams to ensure content investment aligns with business objectives, optimizing return on investment and driving financial discipline in a dynamic media environment. Additionally, this role will work closely with all accounting functions related to content, including participations and residuals, amortization accounting, and production accounting ensuring financial accuracy and compliance in the content process from end-to-end.

The ideal candidate will have deep content & production finance experience, portfolio management, and a strong understanding of media accounting practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES




  • Lead financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting for all content and programming initiatives.
  • Partner with content, programming, and production finance leadership to evaluate financial viability and performance of original productions, acquisitions, and licensing deals.
  • Develop and maintain financial models to assess content investment decisions, amortization schedules, and ultimate revenue projections.
  • Assess proposals and conduct scenario analyses for licensing content to third-party platforms.
  • Partner with the content strategy team to optimize content windowing and utilization.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to optimize content spend and maximize return on investment.
  • Collaborate with distribution and marketing teams to align content financial strategies with revenue and audience growth objectives.
  • Monitor industry trends and competitor strategies to inform content investment decisions.
  • Oversee all accounting functions related to content, including participations and residuals, amortization accounting, and writer payments.
  • Ensure compliance with financial reporting standards and policies across all content-related transactions.
  • Support long-range content planning, scenario modeling, and greenlighting processes.
  • Provide financial leadership in production finance, working closely with production teams to manage budgets, cost reporting, and financial controls.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of analytical rigor and strategic partnership.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENTS




  • 7+ years of experience in content finance, FP&A, or corporate finance, preferably in media, entertainment, or streaming.
  • Strong financial acumen with expertise in content valuation, investment analysis, and profitability assessment.
  • Extensive experience in content finance, with deep knowledge of production budgeting, cost tracking, and financial reporting.



OTHER REQUIREMENTS




  • Proven leadership experience in a senior finance role, with the ability to influence creative and business decision-making.
  • Deep understanding of content economics, production financing, licensing deals, and amortization methodologies.
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities to engage with senior executives.
  • Experience overseeing accounting functions such as participations and residuals, amortization accounting, and production budgets.
  • Experience with financial systems, content tracking tools, and data analytics platforms.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of accounting and GAAP. Previous experience in tax or production taxation a plus.
  • Excellent visualization and presentation skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field; MBA and/or CPA required.



The salary range for this job is between $137,500- $189,600. Salary rate will take into consideration several factors including location.
