Digital Director - Reuters

We expect the successful candidate to be based in our New York City bureau.

Reuters are looking for a visionary digital leader to run our digital news team. Having recently moved to a subscription model for our news app and website, we want to strengthen Reuters digital news products so they are indispensable to our subscribers around the world.

As our new Digital Director, you will have significant news leadership experience in a digital environment as well as a deep understanding of how to build a subscriber audience around news. You will have top-notch news judgment, innovative ideas, and a proven ability to deliver at speed. In addition, you will know how to work across a digital organization, including with product, development and commercial teams. And finally, like our subscribers, you will be passionate about fact-based and independent news and have an endless curiosity about the world, from Mumbai to Milan, from technology to trade, and from the G20 to the Olympics.

About the Role

As Digital Director at Reuters, you will:

  • Set the long term editorial direction for Reuters digital offerings with specific focus on developing content for consumer audiences across our websites, apps, mobile and social platforms
  • Further sharpen our audience engagement strategy to drive subscriptions
  • Develop new ways of storytelling and delivering news
  • Work with colleagues to integrate AI into our app and site and other products to better serve our audience while maintaining Reuters highest editorial standards
  • Lead, motivate, and manage the editorial team
  • Collaborate with other senior editorial leaders to ensure our wider newsroom is delivering for our digital customer
  • Ensure all content that is produced adheres to the Reuters Trust Principles of fair, objective coverage of the news
  • Work closely with the commercial, product, technology and sales teams to deliver strong customer experiences and business results
  • Act as a key voice in product initiatives for digital platforms and editorial tools

About You

You're a good fit for the role of Digital Director if you have:

  • Substantial experience as a senior news leader, delivering innovative digital news offerings
  • Exemplary news judgment and an ability to take editorial decisions quickly and independently
  • A track record of delivering change in a newsroom environment and being an advocate for digital storytelling
  • Wide-ranging knowledge of international affairs and business news with an understanding of what kinds of stories appeal to both general consumers and prosumers
  • A keen sense of audience
  • A track record of successfully generating and commissioning original digital journalism using new story-telling techniques with particular focus on video and mobile
  • Expertise in using analytical tools to drive an audience engagement strategy and support editorial decision making
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, able to meet the high standards set by Reuters but with an eye toward maximum impact online
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, able to establish rapport with key senior stakeholders across and outside Reuters
  • A comprehensive understanding of current markets, trends and issues within the media industry

Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The base compensation range varies across locations.
Eligible office location(s) for this role include one or more of the following: New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and/or Irvine, CA; McLean, VA; Washington, DC. The base compensation range for the role in any of those locations is $195,930 - $363,870.
This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance.
Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs.
