The Director of Grants and Grant Management:
  • Promote and uphold the mission, values, and policies of Empath, serving as a visible and accountable champion for the role of philanthropy and grants in advancing compassionate care and community impact.
  • Lead the development of annual and multi-year strategies for grant growth and third-party funder engagement, ensuring alignment with Empath's systemwide priorities and local foundation goals.
  • Lead the identification and qualification of grant opportunities from government, corporate, and private institutional funders. Oversee the development of compelling, mission-aligned proposals in collaboration with foundation leadership, program partners, and finance teams.
  • Direct and manage a comprehensive, systemwide grant acquisition and management program. Ensure that all grants, from pre-award planning through post-award compliance, adhere to all funder guidelines, internal policies, and reporting requirements.
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with government agencies, corporate partners, philanthropic institutions, and community-based organizations to secure support and enhance Empath's visibility and credibility as a funding partner.
  • Mentor local market grants and support staff. Foster a collaborative environment across the foundations, providing guidance, training, and resources to support local philanthropy officers in identifying and securing local and supporting system level grant opportunities.
  • Work closely with finance, division, and program leaders to ensure grant budgets are realistic, sustainable, and well aligned with organizational priorities. Monitor financial performance and compliance for all awarded grants.
  • Oversee the timely submission of required reports and funder deliverables. Establish clear evaluation metrics and collaborate with internal stakeholders to assess and communicate the impact of grant-funded programs and services.
Position Qualification/Requirements:
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive grant writing/management experience, ideally within healthcare, higher education, or similarly complex nonprofit organizations.
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced credentials such as a Master's degree, JD, CAP, or CFRE strongly preferred.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive grant/3rd party revenue strategies that align with both systemwide goals and local market needs. Demonstrated skill designing complete grants procurement, management and reporting structures.
  • Strong interpersonal and mentoring skills with the ability to inspire, equip, and support colleagues across multiple locations and leadership levels. Comfortable serving as both a leader and collaborative partner to local philanthropy officers and system executives.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling donor communications, proposals, stewardship plans, and case materials tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency with fundraising/grant CRM systems (Raiser's Edge or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Experience with planned giving software or legacy gift calculators is a plus.
  • Strong personal integrity, commitment to ethical fundraising practices, and a deep alignment with the mission, values, and vision of Empath Health.
Location:

This position will be based in the Empath Health footprint, and will require travel throughout the Empath Health footprint, including overnights
