The position is responsible for complete oversight and direction of Nutrien's global Cloud footprint, datacenters, storage and backup/restore systems. In addition, portfolio ownership for the projects that will maintain and grow these environments and vendor/people management for related teams and partners. With employees, contractors and partners around the world, this role will have some expectation of travel and working across time zones. What you will do:
- Oversee the global cloud, datacenter, storage and backup capabilities are being effectively managed across Nutrien's global footprint from the perspectives of architecture, projects, maintenance and day to day operations
- Work across disciplines with other IT leaders (Directors, VPs and CIO) in Applications, Digital, Cybersecurity, Planning, and other teams, to ensure that these capabilities are an effective component in the larger ecosystem of IT service delivery
- Oversee and direct the cloud stack which includes leading the global directions of Nutrien's enterprise-wide cloud footprint, network interconnections, landing zones, security, scripting and automation, spend management, operational reporting and supporting stakeholders
- Create an aligned future direction for 'local compute' capabilities across all Nutrien sites (corporate offices, Upstream mines and sites, etc.) and work with vendors to develop solutions that support that vision in 3-5 year timeframe
- Pursue full automation of compute and storage workload management regardless of platform (Cloud/on-prem/at-site) to ensure consistent, change-managed, efficient use of infrastructure with minimal manual support required
- Enable digital development teams to 'self-serve' their cloud needs within a properly supported framework of landing zones, monitoring, cost management and automation
- Oversee and direct the datacenter stack which includes direct oversight of Nutrien's primary datacenters in North America, Australia and other locations around the world including upstream production facilities including ensuring disaster recovery plans are understood, documented and tested and backup systems and data backups are appropriate, managed and secure
- Work with the IT Operations Center to continually increase visibility into performance and security of Nutrien's IT Infrastructure and Applications
- Ensure all backup and restore systems across all of Nutrien's locations and compute infrastructure are effective, secure and cost effective, and work together with cybersecurity, BCP and other teams to ensure we are fully ready for full IT service restoration in the event of any cyber or operational issue
- Engage application teams and business owners in a discussion of cost/benefit for services supplied, and consumption metrics that drive cost, to ensure superior consumption management resulting in lower costs of infrastructure overall
- Prioritize global and local projects and funding including refresh, improvements and new services projects
- Ensure streamlined global project management, support and implementations with effective change management
- Manage large vendor relationships that are key to Nutrien including AWS, Microsoft Azure, Broadcom and others
- People/Team: 4-6 direct employees, 15-25 indirect employees, 5-20 contractors depending on project load and additional outsource partnerships
- Maintain a working knowledge of Nutrien business operations and the Agricultural Retail, Fertilizer, Feed and Industrial markets served, and Nutrien's other IT functions and how they relate to the services provided
- Lead the identification and analysis of industry, technology and market trends to determine their impacts on the enterprise; supporting analysis of business requirements to derive business, application, data, technology and solution architecture requirements
- Analyze the effectiveness, efficiency, reliability and flexibility of solutions and the supporting corporate IT environment to identify value-added opportunities and recommend solutions for improvement
What you will bring:
- Minimum of 15 years of directly related and progressively responsible IT experience, including a minimum of 5 years IT supervisory experience
- Recognized university or technical degree or diploma in IT or Computational Science
- Experience leading and participating in IT development and implementation projects and operational support across various IT areas
- Prior leadership/influence work with distributed teams, directly and indirectly reporting to you, which may have been distributed around the world
- Knowledge of business, application, data, technology and architecture design
- Strength in management of deeply technical environments and teams
- Ability to translate business needs into technical requirements and develop longer term technology directions
- Ability to identify and assess IT alternatives, considering multiple and potentially conflicting criteria (e.g.- cost / benefit / risk assessment, short term / long term, performance, and time to delivery), with the ability to balance the implications of the selection decisions and balance needs across business, application and infrastructure areas
- Demonstrated ability to participate in key technology assessments and direction setting as well as to build, modify and gain support for those directions, and systematically implement progressions that lead to successful implementation of those directions
- Ability to effectively advocate for change from a technology perspective at all levels in the organization, and strong relationship building with peers across the organization
- Good working knowledge of the technology underlying all enterprise architecture domains including infrastructure (servers, storage, networks and end user devices), applications, databases, and security
- Knowledge of and experience with IT risk assessment and management
- Knowledge of and experience with IT standards, policies and procedures formulation
- Ability to rapidly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new trends and technologies
