What you will do: Coach employees/contractors towards creating a safe work environment for all employees/contractors by educating all personnel regarding compliance with all applicable safety, health and environmental (SHE) requirements, leading by example, and promoting a positive SHE attitude/culture to all. This should be done by:
- Spend 75% of time in the field coaching, mentoring, and guiding all employees/contractors through safe work practices.
- Focus on coaching, mentoring, and actively participating in Job Hazard Analysis, Incident Investigations, Key Procedures, Life Critical Assessments,Audits Work Place Inspections, etc.
- Provide Safety expertise in all necessary safety reviews and meetings (i.e. Tap Roots,Apolla RCA's,etc.)
- Recommend the alteration or modification to existing safety systems and provides technical advice to personnel for improving the safety of all employees/contractors on site.
- Accompanies and documents OSHA/MSHA inspections, insurance inspections and other formal safety inspections of the site.
- Supports the behavioral based safety process by actively participating in meetings, sampling, coaching, and mentoring in the process.
- Open to employee safety, health and environmental suggestions and concerns, follows up and provides feedback.
- Respond to technical and legal questions from the field.
Training should occupy 25-35% of the time with some of this time being part of the 75% outlined above. This should be done by:
- Train new employees/contractors and complete follow-up assessments, as well as keep experienced personnel informed as to safe and efficient methods of performing their assignments.
- Provide site specific MSHA/OSHA compliance training to employees, contractors, and visitors, meeting the sites training plan requirements.
- Provide training on:
- MSHA/OSHA auditing
- Nutrien Guidance Documents and Tier Standards
- Site Specific and Area Specific SOP's, Regulations, etc.
- This training shall be done on a continuous basis using practical sessions in the field, to ensure understanding and know how.
- Coaching and mentoring employees / contractors on sustainable safe work habits. Provides management necessary support to assure safety expectations are met. Instruct on methods of safely performing work.
- Assist in technical training programs and implementation of approved safety practices to achieve an efficient and safe operation.
- Involvement in new training alignment initiatives as outlined by Corporate. This will be coordinated with the training department.
Reinforce employees/contractors to properly plan work following all safe work practices perNutrien Corporate Policies and Regulations. This should be done by:
- Participate and Coach in JHAs, PSSR's, MOC's, Pre-Bid Meetings, PHA and HAZOPs, etc.
- Provide clarification and expertise on interpretations of regulatory and legislative requirements.
Develop, implement, and participate in continuing education to provide assistance to all employees/contractors to ensure most currentNutrien Corporate Policies and Regulations. This should be done by:
- Attend safety related training events, safety conferences, etc.
- Coach on Safety Team Leaders Meetings and required safety related training sessions to administer effective sessions. This should be done by:
- Develop and distribute Safety Team Leaders meeting topics.
- Follow proper meeting effectiveness guidelines, objectives, and agendas, modifying as appropriate.
- Continuously review and improve training sessions.
Review safety related activities for completeness of required documentation. This should be done by:
- Analyze safety system data streams including KPA's, LCA's,incident reports, etc. for continuous improvement.
- Analyze trends and identify corrective actions in a timely manner.
- Tracking and following up on all concerns, recommendations, and action items brought forward to ensure they are completed in a timely manner.
- Daily tracking of SHE work orders and provide assistance to get them completed if necessary. Provide feedback to personnel on challenges and completion.
Other safety and environmental related responsibilities:
- Understand the elements of process safety management (PSM) and use them as best practices to improve our safety systems.
- Lead incident investigations and assemble investigation team and enter gathered information into the ETQ system.
- Develop, recommend, and provide changes to safety procedures (i.e. Standard Operating Procedures, site policies)
- Draft, finalize, and distribute investigation reports.
- Test, investigate, and approve new PPE.
- Assists other facilities in safety efforts as needed/directed.
- Assists or coordinates Industrial Hygiene Activities including audiometric testing, pulmonary and/or fit testing.
- Participate on audit teams.
- Actively participate in Emergency Management and Crisis Communication Drills
- Active involvement with the emergency response activities on site and throughout Nutrien
- Maintaining records for OSHA, MSHA, ETQ, and PSM
- Motivation and ability to obtain Professional Safety Certifications
- Possess the ability to lead and influence employees/contractors.
- Ability to assess safety programs and make recommendations to the safety manager for continuous improvement.
- Ability to develop working knowledge of Corporate and site safety programs and policies/procedures.
- Ability to lead audits and deliver training as required.
Contractor Management
- Attend and participate in Contractor meetings.
- Conduct presentations and training to ensure compliance.
- Field audits on contractor activities providing feedback to Contractors andNutrien Representatives
- Work with contractors to ensure they understand Nutrien's short- and long-term goals and that their role plays an integral part of the success of reaching these goals.
What you will bring:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent, Required
- Associate degree or higher in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field preferred
- 3-5 years of Industrial Experience, Required
- Experience with incident investigations, Required.
- Experience with OSHA/MSHA regulations and compliance, Preferred
- Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) and (Mine Safety and Health Administration) MSHA instructor certification, Preferred.
- Analytical reading and proficient writing skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
