What you'll do

In this hands-on role on AlixPartners Information Technology team, a successful Active Directory / M365 Administrator will work within Information Technology to serve various functions. You will assist in the responsibility of the design, implementation, and maintenance strategies of multiple enterprise-level applications and platforms such as Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, Entra ID, and Microsoft Cloud.

Known internally as IT Infrastructure Identity & Access Management Senior Engineer, this is a full-time, contract position with a preferred location in Southfield, MI, reporting to the Identity and Access Manager. Assignment is anticipated to run through the end of 2025, possibly into 2026.



  • Assist in the design and implementation of Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft Entra solutions, including but not limited to user account management, group policy implementation, and access control.
  • Manage and maintain Microsoft Exchange environments, ensuring email systems are secure, reliable, and function efficiently.
  • Implement and manage Microsoft Entra ID for identity and access management.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft Entra solutions,
  • Configure and manage Microsoft 365 tenant, including organizational profile, tenant subscription options, component services, user accounts and licenses, Conditional access policies, security groups, and administrative roles.
  • Troubleshoot DNS Service and DNS resolution issues and manage internal and external DNS systems.
  • Provide support, implementation, and design services for Microsoft Active Directory and Windows-based systems across the enterprise (multi-domain environment).
  • Collaborate with other business functions to understand their business requirements and develop customized solutions that align with their goals.
  • Work closely with other members of the Corporate Services Department to ensure that our systems are reliable, secure, and meet the needs of our users.
  • Provide technical documentation for applications and processes, including system requirements, design specifications, user guides, and training materials.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of industry best practices, policies, and regulations.
  • Innovate and implement improvements and updates to existing technologies proactively.
  • Test new software releases, work with management to schedule the best time to update applications and lead the installation, proving and training for users on updates.
  • Provide technical guidance and training for clients and end-users.

What you'll need



  • Minimum four (4) years of experience in designing and implementing Microsoft Active Directory solutions.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Exchange, including Exchange Online.
  • Experience with PowerShell scripting for automation of Active Directory, Entra ID, and Exchange tasks.
  • Solid understanding of cloud technologies, Entra ID, and hybrid environments.
  • Familiarity with working from a ticketing system (i.e. ServiceNow) as part of a larger team supporting many clients.
  • Highly effective customer service skills using best practices, and the interpersonal skills to interact with people at all levels; beneficial to having worked in an ITIL based environment.
  • Process oriented with effective organizational skills and high-level attention to detail with demonstrated skills in problem analysis and resolution.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team in high pressure situations.
  • Able to maintain momentum on individual projects and prioritize tasks with the ability to juggle interruptions while providing support to the user community.
  • Excellent oral and written communication in English. Capable of explaining technical concepts in plain language and communicating effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Core working hours are generally 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM, Monday - Friday; willingness to work outside of normal U.S. business hours, and as unique projects/needs arise.
  • Ability to work full time in an office and remote environment; physically able to sit/stand at a computer and work in front of a computer screen for significant portions of the workday.
