Job Summary

Uses perioperative knowledge and skills to ensure the assigned Service Line has all of the supplies and equipment needed to complete the scheduled surgeries. Maintains physician requests and relationships in that Service Line. Works with Nurse Clinician for staff competency development to ensure that quality care is provided to patient in OR.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Assumes responsibility for daily section operations. Keeps up to date on schedule to ensure procedures have what they need. Works in concert with Physicians, Scheduler, Service Line Leads, and Managers of each area.
  • Addresses instrumentation needs for cases, sets par levels for supplies, and recommends purchases as needed through Surgery Inventory VAC Committee.
  • Assumes responsibility for scheduling in-services of new equipment and procedures for their assigned specialty as evidenced by observation.
  • Addresses equipment concerns with representatives in a timely manner.
  • Collaborates with Nurse Clinician in the development and implementation of operating room orientation programs for their specific specialty.
  • Rounds with physicians to assess needs, requests, and concerns. Maintains positive professional relationship.
  • Maintains preference card changes for their assigned Service Line.
  • Contributes to planning, budgeting, and staff development with Manager approval for new items requested, new procedures, and new equipment acquired.
  • Participates in and contributes to team planning and patient care for a specific section or service line.
  • Provides input to other Service Line Leads or departmental management to address concerns as needed.
  • Reports and is prepared to begin work at scheduled start time. Follows AORN and RCH guidelines concerning surgical attire.
  • Supports and participates in performance improvement plans to improve quality within the department.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements

Required

Education - Associate in Surgical Services

Certification - Within 12-months of hireSurgical Technician Certificate from an accredited program

Experience - 2+ years of Surgical Technologist Experience

Preferred

Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - Association of Surgical Technologies (AST); or Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - Nation Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA); or Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

Physical Requirements: Heavy work - exerting up to 25 pounds of force constantly (67-100% of the time), and/or up to 50 pounds frequently (34-66% of the time), and/or up to 100 pounds of force occasionally (up to 33% of the time), and or up to 100 pounds of force seldomly to move objects. Possible exposure to radiation and frequent exposure to contaminated needles and infectious body substances. Requires the ability to work designated shift lengths (including 8 and 12 hours), which may include night shifts or occasional irregular hours.
