Job Overview:
This position performs the examination of and test performance in the Core Laboratory on human specimens for purposes of obtaining information for the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of patients. This position performs moderate to high complexity testing utilizing manual methods, semi-automated and automated clinical analyzers in the areas of Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, Stat lab and basic Microbiology. The testing personnel utilizes the Laboratory Information System. |

Qualifications:
Required:
- Education: Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate in clinical laboratory science, chemical, physical or biological
Sciences or meets NJ Sanitary - Code Chapter 44, Chapter IV, 8:44-2.6 Technologist qualifications.
- ASCP or eligibility preferred.
- Licensure: None required, but meets minimum CLIA and NJ standards.
C. - Experience: 6 months hospital experience preferred.
- Successful passing of screening exam and demonstrated written and practical competencies in Core Laboratory.
- Ability to work variable shifts as needed.

Essential Functions:
- Adheres to quality control policies in the Core Laboratory, documents all QC activity and corrective action.
- Demonstrates willingness and flexibility in accepting schedule / assignments. Demonstrates ability to maintain skill level in all areas of the Core Laboratory on a continuous basis.
- Determines acceptability of specimens; resolves discrepancies.
- Ensures the minimum test turnaround time is met to achieve results inaccordance with hospital policies.
- Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance, or departmental operations and immediately corrects the problem or immediately notifies appropriate Supervisor.
- Keeps the work area clean and well organized.
- Participates in the evaluation and correlation of new procedures.
- Performs assays of biological specimens according to established policies and procedures; utilizing instruments, equipment, reagent and techniques in the Blood Bank.
- Periodically reviews policy/procedure manuals to ensure compliance; maintains current knowledge of procedures; participates in training of new employees.
- Processes CAP unknown proficiency testing material in accordance with departmental policy.
- Responsible of checking and recording of temperatures.
- Reviews patient results and reports them within established turnaround times of the Core Laboratory.
- Reviews critical value results of the Core Laboratory, notifies patient care giver anddocuments all in the LIS.
