AVP, Underwriting, E&S

AmTrust E&S Insurance Services, a member of the AmTrust group of companies, is searching for an experienced and knowledgeable AVP, Underwriting to manage and lead a group of underwriters and assistants for our Contract Binding Division.

This individual will oversee activities of our E&S Contract Binding division within designated region. Provides supervision for a group of underwriters who review, analyze, and price insurance coverage for commercial insureds. Analyze various rate plans utilizing claims history, risk characteristics and tailor coverage appropriately based on company guidelines. Gather competitor information, develop, and maintain relationships with wholesale brokers, and develop tools to grow department and underwriting profitability. May require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty or requires equivalent work experience. Familiar with a variety of E&S concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Provide support and coaching to other underwriters and provide leadership for multiple products within the team.

* Managing E&S Contract Binding and Supported Excess Products while producing and maintaining a book of business themselves.

* Develop workflows and maximize automation.

* Implement procedures to increase profitability.

* Audit underwriters to identify challenges, confusion in procedure or guidelines, and need for additional training.

* Assist Underwriters in solving more complex underwriting issues.

* Represent the Underwriting Department with key company contacts.

* Seek out and develop new relationships with wholesale brokers.

* Train new staff as needed.

* 7+ years of experience in the wholesale E&S underwriting space with established broker relationships.

* Portfolio management mindset with focus on balance and diversification, while continually seeking to identify emerging trends and opportunities to help deliver long-term underwriting profit.

* Strong knowledge of E&S insurance products, coverages, and underwriting principles.

* Have an in-depth knowledge of insurance policies, regulations, and trends.

* Builder and growth mindset.

* Excellent presentation skills and accustomed to interacting both in-person or virtually with various external stakeholders and trading partners. Ability to influence and persuade through advanced written and verbal communication skills.
