What you will do:

The Database Developer II will work on theSplit System Product Engineeringteam thatis part of Residential Ducted Systems for Johnson Controls. In this division we manufacture and assemble heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment for the light commercial and residential markets. Ducted Systems Johnson Controls has three plants with approximately 1500 employees each; one in Wichita, KS, one in Cienega Mx, and the other in Norman, OK. This position will be located in our Wichita, KS plant and will report to the Director of Engineering.

This position will be responsible for supporting the current effort to make Ducted Systems the standard of the industry through development and support of engineering database systems utilizing all aspects of design and software engineering. Key elements of the Database Developer role are to analyze and execute database design changes and enhancements for managing technical data for new product introductions, to stay up to speed on initiatives, and to execute against prioritized list of project activities or requests as more senior Developers need executed.

How you will do it:

The Database Developer will perform the following:

  • Assists and collaborates with others in the design of or improvement of assigned software and database projects in a timely and effective manner to ensure timely quality and cost objectives are met

  • Collects, analyzes, and interprets data; develops and executes user interfaces; maps, and develops data collection and dissemination processes; and designs engineering databases to house engineering technical data.

  • Performs accurate analysis of database software performance, making appropriate recommendations as needed to improve database ease, accuracy and reliability.

  • Participate as a member of cross functional project teams to ensure projects are completed according to schedule.

  • Maintains current knowledge of all factors and conditions which may affect work.

  • Provides necessary support and interface to thoroughly resolve internal and external engineering customers' issues and concerns, as required.

  • Advances the state of the art, in the mode of finding process improvements and championing implementation.

  • Other duties or projects as assigned.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering/Computer Science or related field of study

  • High level of self-motivation and integrity

  • Effective and professional communication and organizational skills are required

  • Ability to troubleshoot, collaborate and brainstorm with other team members

  • Has a broad analytical perspective that leverages the collective knowledge of the organization and works well in a diverse workplace.

  • Proficiency in C#, VB.net, SQL/database, Visual Studio, SQL Server and other analytical programs, with the ability to quickly master new software applications.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and decision making ability

About the Manager:

I have been working in the Residential/light commercial HVAC product engineering industry for 30+ years. My experience includes work in water source heat pumps, residential AC/ heat pumps, coils, and air handlers. My interests revolve around developing high quality, cost competitive, strong performing residential HVAC systems. Our work and designs make possible societal economic growth and advancement of society, by providing comfortable, and healthy environment where we work, live, and play. Expect to be challenged in this role to learn new tools and systems, tackle complicated projects, make engineering judgements in the face of uncertainty, and conduct exploratory analysis to evaluate system performance. As a leader, I focus on continuous learning, employee development, and execution - both building our own engineering skillsets, but also improving our processes and products.
