The Role

As a Senior Engineer - Modern Platforms Virtualization, you will work on a team to ensure executional excellence and create supreme customer experiences for all assigned projects. The Senior Engineer - Modern Platforms Virtualization role combines technical ability and experience with polished communication skills to deploy VMware solutions. This position reports to the Sr. Director of Modern Platforms Virtualization.

In this role you will be expected to travel up to 5%. This is a work-from-home role with the option to use local Presidio office (if available). There are multiple roles available for both Full-time and 1099 Contract.

Responsibilities include:



  • Work with a team of engineers on client projects and on-going professional services engagements.
  • Design and implement a VMware solutions for clients.
  • Deliver VMware workshops for customers.
  • Lead customer engagments to identify and manage workload migrations.
  • Post implementation support and troubleshooting for clients on occasion.
  • Technical writing skills to author professional documentation for client review.
  • Authoring logical and physical diagrams using Microsoft Visio (or equivalent).
  • Ability to track and enter time spent into required systems on a timely basis.
  • Leading conversations and white boarding sessions in front of clients and/or peers.


Required Skills and Professional Experience



  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting VMware Cloud Foundation suite of products.
  • Strong work experience migrating data center workloads within VMware (P2V, vMotion, HCX, etc)
  • Experience designing and implementing complex VMware data center solutions.


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and/or military experience


  • 6+ years of advanced working VMware knowledge and experience working with data center and workload migrations.
  • 3+ years of work experience in developing workload migration plans


  • Experience with VMware Cloud Foundation products (VCP preferred but not required)
  • Technical certifications strongly desired.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Ability to physically lift and install equipment.


  • Experience with DHCP, DNS and general network troubleshooting.
  • Experience with general backup and disaster recovery technologies.
  • Experienced working with multiple data centers and concepts around high availability, replication, and RTO/RPO.
  • Strong work ethic and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated and a desire to succeed.
  • Relentless attention to detail.
  • Ability to work as a team or on their own depending on the engagement and ability to keep yourself on task.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects, prioritize work, and meet timelines
  • Ability to properly diagram and document a working environment


Preferred Skills and Professional Experience



  • Experience with cloud platforms like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Experience with VCF products and add-ons such as NSX, vSAN, Aria Operations, Aria Automation, VMware Live Site Recovery (SRM), and VMware Live Cyber Recovery (VCDR)
  • Strong communication to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience with cloud storage solutions from Microsoft, AWS, NetApp, Pure, Dell and others
  • Experience with Veeam, Commvault, Rubrik, Cohesity or other data protection solutions
