Candidates must be located near our corporate office in Cincinnati, OH. American Modern Insurance Group is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our Corporate Reporting team! This role will be primarily responsible for general accounting and reporting on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. This role also supports the monthly accounting close and oversees the maintenance of the general ledger. The Senior Accountant will be involved in ad hoc analyses and other accounting projects as needed, and is expected to continue to build expertise and capabilities in insurance accounting through formal and informal training and development channels.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Assist with the monthly financial close process, including ensuring all transactions incurred are properly recorded, preparing journal entries, and perform controls.
- Assist in the development and coordination of the monthly results review with the Accounting teams to analyze and explain financial results, including variance analysis and proper period recognition. In addition, key metrics will be reviewed in line with monthly, quarterly, and annual deadlines.
- Participates in the oversight of the general ledger for all American Modern companies. This includes ensuring all account reconciliations are completed timely by the Accounting teams, reviewing new accounts and account sub-assignments and the impact on all processes, and managing the locking of the ledgers.
- Participate in the redesign and process improvement initiatives for corporate reporting.
- Prepare and or review account reconciliations from source system to general ledger. Ensure documentation will meet control specifications.
- Ensure adherence to Standard Operating Procedures documentation, and updating on a periodic basis.
- Collaborate with EY auditors to ensure successful audit results and compliance.
- Continue to build expertise and capabilities in insurance accounting through on the job training, and by attending training and development opportunities both inside and outside of work.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent work experience.
- CPA or Insurance Certification (CPCU, ARE).
- Insurance accounting knowledge preferred.
- Experience using Microsoft products and other BI data analytical tools, such as COGNOS Advance, Oracle Sequel, Power BI or similar programs.
- Experience in establishing/documenting end to end business/accounting processes.
- Detailed oriented, organizational skills and ability to prioritize and multi-task work.
