American Modern Insurance Group is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our IFRS Reporting team! This role will be primarily responsible for core IFRS 17 accounting and reporting support functions on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. This role primarily supports key financial reporting to the international corporate parent and internal management. The Staff Accountant will be involved in ad hoc analyses and other accounting projects as needed, and is expected to continue to build expertise and capabilities in insurance accounting through formal and informal training and development channels.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for IFRS 17 accounting and reporting processes as it pertains to the American Modern Insurance Group for premiums, commissions, losses, reinsurance, tax, intercompany, and cash transactions.
  • Prepare journal entries and perform analysis of IFRS 17 input data and assumptions and verify calculated financial results. This includes interfacing with key stakeholders to understand and document major drivers of IFRS 17 activities.
  • Participate in the preparation of key documentation / workpapers / analysis supporting the IFRS 17 accounting and reporting activities.
  • Prepare account reconciliations from source system to general ledger for IFRS 17 balances. Ensure documentation meets internal control requirements.
  • Assist in the preparation and validation of financial data and supplemental notes loaded to the Group's consolidation tool (ECON).
  • Ensure adherence to Standard Operating Procedures documentation and updating on a periodic basis.
  • Performing analysis and developing results under other key regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Performing reconciliation of IFRS 17 results to other bases of accounting and other key regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Continue to build expertise and capabilities in insurance accounting through on the job training, and by attending training and development opportunities both inside and outside of work

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent work experience.
  • CPA or Insurance Certification (CPCU, ARE).
  • GAAP, Statutory, and/or IFRS accounting knowledge and on the job experience with recording complex ledger transactions and preparing reconciliations.
  • Experience using Microsoft products and other BI data analytical tools, such as COGNOS Advance, Oracle Sequel, Power BI or similar programs.
  • Experience in establishing/documenting end to end business/accounting processes.
  • Detailed oriented, organizational skills and ability to prioritize and multi-task work.
