Job Summary

Responsible for the overall repair of various types of railcars. This position performs at a high level of proficiency in railcar repairs with very limited supervision. The position may perform training functions as needed.

Job Duties

  • Successfully complete, perform, and maintain the Mobile Repair Technician I and II job functions
  • Perform shop switching responsibilities
  • Understand and use decal machinery
  • Assist Lead and Supervisors with training for Level I and II technicians as needed
  • Comply with company's Quality Program by following all in-house quality processes and procedures and required AAR and FRA rules and regulations as well as any client specific procedures
  • Read and Interpret AITX and Customer Drawings, Procedures and Work in instructions.
  • Ability to perform metal Cutting Methods ( OFC, CAC-A and PAC)
  • Ability to rebuild valves
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of Repair Reference Guage uses.
  • Clear understanding of Calibration methods of NDT Equipment.
  • Review car owner specific repair procedures
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate well with Customers as it pertains to Mobile call outs.
  • Assist with Internal and Regulatory Audits
  • Assemble car files and work order are accurate and complete
  • Create Hot Work Permits
  • Qualified to Bench Test Tank Car valves as Applicable per site.
  • Demonstrate proper leadership skills
  • Acquire Qualifications in ASCABT, NDTII and General Welding (SMAW)
  • Run daily safety meetings
  • Other duties may be assigned


Experience and Education

  • High-school diploma or general education degree (GED), preferred, but not required
  • Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals and blueprints
  • Must be able to write routine reports and correspondence and speak and communicate effectively
  • Must possess basic math skills and work and understand simple mathematical concepts
  • Must possess reasoning ability to solve practical problems.
  • Must be able to fully pass the fitness-for-duty examination, (including any PPE fit test requirements), pre-employment physical, and pre-employment drug screenings.
