Position Summary |
The Academic Advisor II position in the Office of Undergraduate Advising meets with assigned caseload of approximately 200-250 students, provides each student with accurate information about their intended degree program, makes recommendations about course selection for upcoming semesters, generates electronic advising forms detailing these recommendations, and maintain detailed notes about these meetings.
Advisors also assist students with referrals to departments and other colleges at
UGA, study abroad programs, tutoring, and other forms of academic assistance, etc. Advisors are needed to have or develop full knowledge of resources that support students in areas other than their academic life and to refer students to appropriate individuals and offices as needed.
An Academic Advisor will maintain consistent contact with their students, maintain accurate and thorough electronic student records, and respond in a timely manner to questions from students. An effective academic advisor displays attention to detail and is attentive to student concerns. Advising work is performed under general supervision with no supervisory responsibilities. |

- Works directly with intended Sport Management and Sport Management students as an academic advisor.
- Develops and maintains knowledge of Mary Frances Early College of Education (MFE COE) assigned majors as well as general MFE COE and University of Georgia (UGA) requirements and policies.
- Helps students understand programs of study and comply with institutional requirements, policies, and procedures.
- Advises prospective majors, intended majors, and declared majors via scheduled in-person and Zoom appointments, drop-in visits, emails, and phone calls.
- Assists students in the selection of courses and other educational experiences.
- Evaluate student progress toward established goals.
- Assists students in decision-making and career direction.
- Assists students who have academic difficulties and refers them to the appropriate resources.
- Displays care and concern for the well-being of university students.
- Actively seeks to improve processes & practices for supporting students.

- Works with MFE COE program/department/major contacts in addition to faculty and staff of aligned units as directed by Co-Director.
- Serves as a liaison to assigned MFE COE academic department(s); assists program coordinators with curriculum issues in collaboration with Co-Director.
- Provides timely departmental updates to the Office of Undergraduate Advising.
- Assist program coordinators facilitating the application and admissions process for assigned majors in collaboration with Co-Director; reviews application & admission process for assigned majors with students and refers them to the department or major as needed for more detailed assistance.
