Overview:

The Bon Appetit and Epicurious Test Kitchen is responsible for creating compelling original recipes and content that live across all of our brands and all of our platforms, including websites, social channels, digital video, apps, print, and more. We seek expert content creators who engage and inspire audiences, and who place equal value on bringing the work of contributors and chefs to life on our platforms as well.

Primary Responsibilities:

Test Kitchen Editors are expected to oversee content at the story and package level. They should be comfortable with contributing to the editorial direction and strategy of their assigned stories, and collaborating with multiple teams to create successful work. They should be adept at all stages of recipe development and production, including reporting and writing that support it. They should show excellent judgment in their pitches, recipe execution, visual sense, editing, and writing. Test Kitchen Editors are also expected to provide support to junior members with their cooking and story assignments.

The parties also acknowledge that employees in the role may be asked to perform certain operational tasks such as evaluating and/or meeting with candidates for open positions and/or assisting in the training or mentoring of colleagues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee recipe lineups within assigned stories, sections, and platforms, and execute recipes that engage our audiences, balancing rich storytelling with business goals of growing audiences and meeting KPIs.

  • Work across teams like SEO, edit, social, and visuals, to take content strategies through all phases of production, from pitching to execution, packaging, and marketing.

  • Incorporate performance data into content planning and help to refine the team's output and efforts accordingly.

  • Delegate assignments as needed to internal and external developers and track deliverables throughout the creative process.

  • Pitch, develop, and test recipes across all platforms and brands; pitch content and contribute across sections for print and digital.

  • Partner with chefs and outside recipe developers to commission recipe content and showcase adept translation of their work and points of view for home cooks.

  • Actively participate in video across platforms.

  • Promote your work through participation in video, social media, newsletter programming, media appearances, podcast, and other platforms.

  • Contribute written pieces, such as digital articles and print copy.

  • Brainstorm, collaborate, and help solve challenges with the rest of the food team, regardless of story assignment.

  • Help develop the talent of junior team members, giving constructive feedback on their work and performance, and fostering a transparent, respectful, inclusive, and collaborative team environment.

  • Additional responsibilities and tasks as assigned.

Desired Skills & Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of hands-on culinary experience, such as restaurants, test kitchens, and/or social media, plus at least 2 years experience in editorial.

  • A strong editorial voice and ability to think strategically as well as creatively when aligning audience needs and content.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and deadlines for your own work as well as for collaborations with brands and creative partners.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills. Experience working on cross-functional teams to execute multi-platform content. Ability to partner effectively with editors, writers, contributors, producers, photographers, food stylists, designers, and more.

  • On-camera interest and experience.

This is a guild position.

The expected base salary range for this position is from $80,000-$90,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
