JOB SUMMARY: The Vocational Specialist provides evidenced-based supported employment services to consumers receiving Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) services, who express an interest in returning to work, operating with a "zero exclusion" approach. The Vocational Specialist provides employment and education services, with an emphasis on the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) practice philosophy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • As a member of the ACT Team, the Employment Specialist will engage consumers around the idea of work using motivational interviewing skills and educating consumers on how work impacts benefits.

  • Complete a Career Profile to understand consumer's preferences, wishes, dreams and past experiences and skills.



  • Assess preferences around levels of disclosure to determine the type and level of involvement of the Vocational Specialist.



  • Provide vocational support to consumers seeking employment, considering previous and new job development activities and using a person-centered approach.



  • Develop a plan for providing ongoing support once a consumer obtains employment.


  • Provide other mental health rehabilitation services to support the consumers goal of employment and/or education to include.


    1. Assist consumers in developing interpersonal and community coping skills including adapting to home, school, and work environments.

    2. Provide mental health education, support, and consultation to consumers, families and other support systems the consumer has in the community which is directed exclusively to the well-being and benefit of the consumer.



    3. Assist consumers with self-identifying and minimizing the negative effects of psychiatric symptoms that interfere with daily living, financial management, and school or work performance.



    4. Assist consumers in increasing social support skills and networks that are necessary to enable and maintain independent living and ameliorate life stressors.



    5. Educate and assist consumers with learning or re-learning activities of daily living (ADL) skills necessary to improve quality of life, including attainment of health care benefits.



    6. Communicate and collaborate with collateral providers and consumer key supports.




  • Perform administrative work through accurate and complete documentation of all services (billable and non-billable) in Credible by the next business day.


    1. Use of the electronic calendar for scheduling all activities



    2. Completion of all daily routines and other functions which contribute to a paperless and mobile environment



    3. Use of smartphones for recording brief entries such as No Shows/Cancellations and use of dictation function to promote efficiency and achieve documentation expectations.





  • Continuously maintain an average of five (5) billable hours for every working day after 90 days of employment (holiday, sick, personal and vacation days are excluded).



  • Attend all administrative, in-service education and other meetings as required; minimum of four (4) hours of individual or group supervision per month with Clinical Manager (team meetings count as supervision).



  • Provides periodic on-call evening and weekend coverage as part of rotating schedule.



  • Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.




EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:




  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Counseling or related discipline.



  • BSW require appropriate professional licensure One (1) year direct service experience in a social service setting with adults who have mental illnesses, substance abuse history, development disabilities and/or chronic health issues.




SKILLS and COMPETENCIES:



  • Driving is required. Must have valid local driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Skill in the use of computer systems (preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment) and MS Office products.
