Responsibilities
JOB SUMMARY: The Manager of Utilization Management assumes responsibility for the functioning of the Utilization Management Department. The Manager of Utilization Management provides utilization management services in a manner consistent with the philosophy and objectives of the facility. The Manager of Utilization Management evaluates patient medical records to determine severity of patient's illness and determines the appropriateness of level of care. Serves as liaison for patients and hospital with insurance companies. Negotiates and advocates for patient length of stay and level of care. Oversees utilization management activities with other departments to ensure reimbursement for services provided by the hospital. Qualifications JOB SPECIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competency in the criteria listed in this job description. The specifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability to meet the minimum requirements for this position. Staff must demonstrate flexibility for reassignment, providing care to varied populations including male and female children, adolescents and adults as well as dually diagnosed adults. Education: Masters prepared healthcare leader/director. Masters degree in Nursing, Counseling, Psychology or Social Work required. Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years clinical experience with acute psychiatric setting as a treatment team member or 3-5 years in utilization management experience with case management and the utilization management process including concurrent reviews. Previous continuum of care experience highly preferred. Licensure/Certification: If RN - licensure required. Knowledge: Prefer knowledge of case management, age specific growth and development, crisis, and behavior management.
