Applications are being accepted for an annual, renewable half-time, 12-month director position as the Director of the Royal D. Alworth Jr. Institute for International Studies. Housed in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, The Royal D. Alworth, Jr. Institute for International Studies was established at UMD in 1987 by a generous donation from the family of Royal D. Alworth, Jr. The objectives of the Alworth Institute include the promotion of knowledge and understanding of international issues and their domestic impact by providing a variety of public lectures, forums, and events. Some recent events put on by the Alworth Institute include invited presentations about current conflicts and wars, climate change, comparative health systems, and a number of travelogues from virtually all corners of the world. The Director identifies guest speakers, including international experts, scholars, activists, faculty, staff, and students, and organizes events. The Alworth Institute sponsors an international trivia competition and hosts a former U.S. diplomat that meets with students to assist them with obtaining international internships. Key responsibilities include: The appointment is 50% time and the term of appointment is one year (annually renewable) with an intended start date of August 1, 2025.
