JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Penn State Behrend is currently seeking applicants for the Nittany Lion Mascot.

Rules of being the Nittany Lion Mascot:

The Nittany Lion:

  • Does not speak - EVER, even if asked a direct question. Appropriate sign language (thumbs up, OK, number 1) is allowed
  • Does not make rude gestures
  • Does not use the tail in any inappropriate manner
  • Is never seen in only part of the costume: no head without body or body without head, hand gear must be on at all times
  • May only dress up in appropriate and approved attire - i.e. bow tie, scarf, Penn State apparel jersey, Hawaiian shirt, etc.
  • Cannot wear any other college or university's attire
  • Cannot drink alcohol or smoke

If any damage is done to the suit that needs repair or replacement, please let your manager know ASAP so it can be fixed. Please respect the Nittany Lion, as it is nationally recognized and the symbol for Penn State University.

Selected Candidate MUST:

  • Pick up/return Nittany Lion Mascot prior to the event and return it immediately, or on the following business day if necessary.
  • Provide own transportation to and from programs/events/activities
  • Check-in with the office/department/contact person to find out specifically what is expected of them during each event. Contact info will be provided so you know who to check in with once you arrive.

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

CAMPUS SECURITY CRIME STATISTICS

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.
