Program Description: The laboratory studies the immune response in the central nervous system during neurological diseases- neuroimmunology. One area of research in the laboratory is the study of microglia during neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, and neuropathic pain. The laboratory uses a virus-induced mouse model of multiple sclerosis as well as the EAE mouse model. The laboratory uses a closed and open head model for traumatic brain injury. The laboratory uses several different animal models of chronic pain. The focus of these studies is determining the role of microglia in disease and then developing therapeutic strategies to alter microglia functions during disease. This position will also be part of an NIH-funded project that examines the role of exosomes secreted by microglia in the pathogenesis of disease. Qualifications
All required qualifications must be included in the application materials Required Qualifications: B.S. preferably in immunology, microbiology, virology, neuroscience, biochemistry, or molecular biology, or a combination of education and relevant work experience to equal at least four years. Preferred Qualifications: Experience conducting experiments in a research laboratory.
