About the Job

Summary of Position:
Provide routine laboratory work and project management to support the development of novel therapeutic agents in Guy laboratory.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
50 % Routine medicinal chemistry
Perform screening assays with proteins and small molecules to identify enzyme inhibitors and/or protein binders. Develop, optimize, and validate multiple biochemical assays to perform drug screening. Utilize those assays to screen compounds. Keep an accurate and detailed electronic laboratory notebook. Maintain an orderly research workspace and follow all University, Department, and Guy laboratory specific safety policies. Prepare reports of research results for presentation in group meetings and for dissemination in scholarly publications and grant applications.

40 % Lab management
Manages logistics and contracting in support of discovery of therapeutic medication. Handles supply chain logistics of critical reagents including inventory control, ordering, and disposition. Identifies appropriate contractors for outsourced work and negotiates terms and conditions in support of contracting for specific work. Interfaces with other groups and manages data flow including entry and analysis into electronic laboratory records, producing summary documents, drafts technical reports and manuscript sections, and organizes and leads project meetings.

10 % Other duties as assigned related to professional development, lab management, and experiments.

Work arrangements:
This role is offered as an on-campus position where you are required to be onsite at our Twin Cities, MN campus on a regular basis. The ability for some flexibility with this requirement, particularly carrying out project management and analysis remotely, and the specific schedule will be determined between you and your supervisor.

Working Conditions:
The majority of the work in this position is performed in a general laboratory and office settings.

Qualifications

All required qualifications must be included in the application materials

Required Qualifications:
BA/BS degree in Organic or Medicinal Chemistry, or a combination of education and relevant work experience to equal at least four years.
Knowledge of organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry principles is essential.
Knowledge of synthetic techniques, purification methods, and analytical tools.
Ability to work with and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders.
Ability to lead teams, while working independently.

Preferred Qualifications:
2 years of research experience after obtaining BA/BS degree or relevant Master's degree.

About the Department

The Medicinal Chemistry department consists of a diverse group of faculty members, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, and research scientists working at the interface of chemistry and biology and is home to the editorial offices of the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry and ACS Infectious Diseases.

The department is part of the College of Pharmacy and University health sciences, which house nationally and internationally acclaimed programs in the areas of biochemistry, neuroscience, pharmacology, virology, immunology, cancer biology, structural biology, and drug delivery.

Medicinal Chemistry is a dynamic, multifaceted scientific discipline that is dedicated to the improvement of human health through research that leads to the design and development of safe and effective therapeutic, diagnostic, and environmental agents.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $41,600- $44,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience
