Road Patrol Officer
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana Position Type: Full-Time
Overview
The Road Patrol Officer plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of employees, contractors, customers, and company assets. This position involves patrolling substations and facilities, responding to incidents and alarms, and supporting field crews in potentially hostile situations. Officers also serve as liaisons with law enforcement and contribute to crisis response and internal reporting.
Priority Consideration
Applicants with existing Reserve Law Enforcement Officer powers certified by the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (I.L.E.A.) will receive priority consideration.
Minimum Requirements
- MUST be an active or retired police officer certified by the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (I.L.E.A.)
- Minimum age of 21 years
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license
- Reputable character
- Strong planning, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Self-motivated and highly organized
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Availability for shift work, including nights, weekends, and possibly holidays
- Proficiency in using computers and knowledge of security-related applications, including:
- Physical access control systems - Security camera systems - Timekeeping and incident reporting tools - Inspection forms and email communications
Primary Responsibilities
- Patrol company facilities and substations to ensure safety and security
- Respond to alarms, incidents, and requests for assistance
- Support field crews by managing hostile individuals and providing on-site standby
- Support AES people, when requested, at community events hosted by AES by providing off-site security
- Act as a liaison between the company and law enforcement agencies
- Communicate incidents and activities to the Intelligence Security Operations Center (iSOC) and Security Management
- Prepare internal reports and assist in incident response
- Participate in mandatory training programs, including:
- AES-required training - Monthly safety sessions - Position-specific training - Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) training annually per federal mandates - Maintain annual firearm qualification
- Perform other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
- Two or more years of experience in the energy or utility industry
- Experience supporting 24/7 real-time operations
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance (e.g., FERC, NERC)
- Basic technical knowledge for minor troubleshooting of security components
Working Conditions
- Mobile/roving field work in all weather conditions
- Minimum of 40 hours per week
- Combination of vehicle-based and on-foot patrols
- Occasional lifting may be required
- Shift work may include holidays, nights, weekends, and coverage outside regular hours
