About the role:

As a Manager of Analytical Services you will direct the activities of chemists, supervisors, and technicians performing analytical chemistry, physical measurements and metallurgical tests on nuclear fuel and other material to support the Columbia Plant operations. You will provide leadership to ensure quality control and laboratory methods and procedures are employed to identify potentially defective product. You will take a lead role in mentoring and developing leaders and teams while resolving problems and implementing best practices in the Quality Control organization.

You will report to the Manager of Product Assurance and be located at Columbia, SC. You will support this role 100% onsite.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Manage the Columbia Plant Analytical Services Laboratory which has responsibility for providing analytical chemistry analyses for incoming materials, process control, and product specification.



  • Manage the Columbia Plant Metallurgical Laboratory which has responsibility for weld corrosion and penetration testing and disposition, pellet grain size analysis, scanning electron microscopy, metal fatigue/stress testing, and special metallurgical analysis.



  • Develop opportunities for continuous improvement within the Analytical Services Laboratory and the Metallurgical Laboratory.



  • Approve procedures required for all Analytical Services and Met Lab operations to assure that they are technically correct, reviewed by license, and following established policy and the requirements of regulatory agencies.



  • Assure that all operations and measurements are performed so that they meet the requirements of the NRC License and the requirements of other regulatory bodies having jurisdiction.



  • Use trouble shooting, cause analysis, test method development, sampling strategies, and other statistical tools to identify and categorize product or materials potentially not meeting requirements.



  • Ensure control processes are implemented to contain product or materials potentially not meeting requirements.



  • Direct the development of new methods to improve the accuracy and reduce the cost of routine measurements.



  • Direct the research and development of measurement systems required for advanced fuels and to meet regulatory requirements.



  • Review the technical aspects of new programs which influence the Analytical Services Laboratory and recommend changes required to meet goals.



  • Manage technological and engineering methods or applications to incorporate improvements, regulatory driven updates, and requirements specific to nuclear industry.



  • Provide technical leadership, counsel and support to staff for technological/engineering advancement. Promote and arrange for training of staff and ensure that levels of guidance and direction are provided. Manage and document employee performance and implement responsive actions.



  • Establish and meet financial commitments.




Qualifications:


  • Technical Bachelor's Degree or combination of education and experience to meet equivalency requirements.



  • 5 years management experience.



  • 10+ years of experience in manufacturing
