Job Purpose
The Senior Associate AD for Development will provide strong vision, leadership, management, coordination and oversight of athletics fundraising operations. The Charleston Athletic Fund ( CAF) is a 501c3 that serves as the primary source of fundraising in support of College of Charleston Athletics. The position will have direct oversight of the Charleston Athletic Fund Staff and Charleston Athletic Fund Board. Gifts and pledges are raised through an annual membership structure, pledged major and principal gifts, deferred giving and other fundraising efforts. Goals for aggressive growth in membership and giving are expected to continue in the future. At a dynamic time for college athletics, the position will provide leadership that encourages the organization to meet today's funding needs including scholarships, revenue sharing for student-athletes, capital projects and other department needs.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree is required; advanced degree is preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.

Minimum of eight years of progressive experience in development, fundraising, or advancement within intercollegiate athletics or higher education with demonstrated success in securing major gifts is preferred. A proven ability to lead, mentor, and manage a team, drive strategic initiatives, and achieve financial goals.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Superior written and verbal communication, creative problem-solving skills and interpersonal skills to form relationships with colleagues, fans, donors, student-athletes coaches and senior leadership.
2. Ability to articulate and meet goals and objectives.
3. Demonstrated proficiency and experience in managing relationships with high-level prospects to secure major gifts.
4. A passion for service excellence, integrity, and strong work ethic.
5. Knowledge and experience with NIL / revenue share and ability to fundraise for our new STARR (Student Athlete Recruitment and Retention) Fund.
6. Must be organized and detail oriented and demonstrate the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
* Problem solver, self-starter, and intrinsically motivated. Proactive thinking with interest in developing and executing new ideas is necessary.
* Resourceful and have the ability to lead a team as well as function as part of the larger senior team.
* Computer literacy with Word, Excel and competency in navigation of donor database systems and related software.
* Must be able to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends. Some overnight travel is required.
Additional Comments Regarding Position
Reports to the Deputy Director of Athletics with a dotted line to the Director of Athletics and the Chief Advancement Officer for the College of Charleston. This position will be expected to perform independently on a day-to-day basis and be able to make decisions on their own as well as collaborate with the Deputy Director of Athletics, Director of Athletics, and the Chief Advancement Officer for the College of Charleston. Must be highly motivated and demonstrate good judgment in confidential matters. Must exhibit professionalism at all times and always represent the College of Charleston in the highest regard with alumni, volunteers, parents, donors and staff.
Attendance is required at all home men's basketball games as well as selected games/competitions of other athletics teams throughout the year. Attendance at select Institutional Advancement meetings is required.

Fundraising
o Prepare and implement strategies to achieve Cougar Club Annual Fund financial and membership goals.
o Work with Athletics administrators, coaches, and staff to identify and define priority needs to be funded through external support.
o Plan and implement strategies for donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
o Fundraise major gifts through pledges, outright gifts or deferred gifts.
o Research and cultivate donors to match the needs of Athletics with interests of prospective donors.
o Coordinate with the university's senior leadership on prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.
o Responsible for leading the development team in fundraising for revenue share for our student-athletes.
o Sets fundraising goals and objectives for staff members with integrated accountability processes to regularly track progress.
o Take a best practices approach by creating new revenue generation opportunities.

Leadership and Collaboration
o Oversight of the Charleston Athletic Fund staff. Hire, train, and manage a full-time staff of four (4) as well as student workers.
o In partnership with the staff and senior administrative team, develop and execute a plan that provides the highest level of support possible for student-athletes.
o Assist staff with administration of donor benefits and fulfillment.
o Assist staff with building out a comprehensive communications plan to current/prospective donors that keys on increased awareness of fundraising opportunities, stewardship and events.
o Craft a plan that effectively distributes duties, provides continuity, retains key staff members, and evaluates evolving organizational structure.
o Serve as a member of the Director of Athletics' Senior Leadership Team.
o Work in collaboration with the Institutional Advancement team on fundraising initiatives that meet the needs of athletics.
o Collaborate with our athletics communications and marketing staff on content for fans and donors.

Charleston Athletic Fund Board
o Will serve as the primary liaison to the CAF Board.
o Work with President of the CAF Board to coordinate and conduct regular meetings of Executive Committee, Board Committees and Full Member Board meetings.
o Collaborate with CAF Board on strategies to enhance membership and revenue generation in support of Charleston Athletics.
