Role Overview:

The FACT Team Leader is responsible for directing a specialized team within the Group Disability Claims department, focusing on timely and effective collection of overpayments, collaboration and coordination with vendors, active follow up on offsets (e.g., Social Security Disability Insurance [SSDI], Workers' Compensation, pension, third party, etc.), earnings calculations, and claims-related financial coding. The FACT Team Leader ensures their team is achieving operational goals of precise and timely execution of financial components within the claims process while maintaining compliance with regulatory and internal standards. This role plays a vital part in supporting the organization's commitment to delivering excellent service and ensuring financial integrity in disability claims handling.

What You'll Do: Leadership & Team Management
  • Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance, and coaching to group of team members
  • Support the development and ongoing oversight of clear goals and expectations
  • Regularly collaborate across FACT with a focus on overall success.
  • Provide transparent communication so teams can make informed decisions.
  • Oversee workload distribution to maintain operational efficiency and meet key performance metrics.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, support team development, and foster employee engagement.
  • Develop high performing team by providing growth opportunities, coaching and candid feedback to help others continue to learn and grow.
  • Cultivate a culture of accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with FACT Director on customer and organizational opportunities.
  • Demonstrate Enterprise Mindset by acting in the best interest of the entire company
Operational Oversight
  • Ensure overpayments are accurately calculated and recovered in accordance with group policy provisions and legal requirements.
  • Supervise the proper application and recalculation of various offsets (e.g., SSDI, retirement, workers' compensation, etc.).
  • Oversee earnings calculations and confirm that all claims are accurately documented in internal systems.
  • Collaborate with audit, finance, legal, and compliance teams to uphold data accuracy and mitigate risk.
Process Improvement & Quality Control
  • Analyze operational trends and root causes in overpayment and offset issues.
  • Recommend and lead process enhancements to reduce errors and increase productivity.
  • Empower decision-making at the right level while promoting accountability and ownership of outcomes.
  • Develop, monitor, and report on quality assurance metrics; conduct audits to ensure adherence to established guidelines.
Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Act as the primary point of contact for escalated issues from internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Liaise with policyholders, brokers, and customer service teams to explain financial calculations, overpayments and offset amounts clearly and professionally.
  • Represent the team in strategic initiatives, cross-functional meetings, and special projects.
What You'll Bring: Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in business, insurance, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years in disability claims operations, with demonstrated expertise in handling overpayments, offsets and financial calculations.
  • 2+ years of insurance industry people leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
Skills & Competencies
  • In-depth understanding of group disability insurance and the financial aspects of claims processing.
  • Proficient in claims and financial systems used for adjudication and reconciliation
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and critical thinking abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to simplify complex topics for a diverse audience.
  • High emotional intelligence and effective conflict resolution capabilities.
Preferred Certifications
  • Associate, Life and Health Claims (ALHC), Fellow, Life Management Institute (FMLI) or other relevant industry designations.

Pay Transparency

Salary range:$75,000-$105,000

Overtime eligible:Exempt

Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual's experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
