Mechanical Engineer Team Lead

 

PEMEX Deer Park is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Team Lead to take on a dynamic role within the engineering department, blending technical expertise with strong leadership. You will lead and support a team of mechanical engineers focused on ensuring the reliability of both static and rotating equipment. You will guide efforts in operational and maintenance support, risk identification and mitigation, and effective change management. You will collaborate regularly with peers and stakeholders across the organization to align priorities and allocate resources strategically, driving optimal business results.

 

You will be expected to lead a team of 5–7 engineers, supporting roughly half of the refinery’s operations across multiple production areas and units. You will also collaborate closely with stakeholders, contribute to long-term business planning, and provide technical oversight in mechanical engineering. Occasional extended hours may be required during maintenance events.

To succeed as a Mechanical Engineer Team Lead, you must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical engineering preferred) with 8–10 years of experience in refining or a similar manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in static and/or rotating equipment, along with knowledge of operations, maintenance, and reliability best practices
  • Familiarity with refining industry codes and standards, and proficiency in risk assessment, RCM, MOC, and structured problem solving
  • Prior formal leadership experience and direct support to operations and/or maintenance organizations strongly preferred
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time and meet physical requirements such as walking long distances and climbing to elevated work areas

 

As a Mechanical Engineer Team Lead, you will:

  • Consistently demonstrate safety behaviors, site values, and leadership traits while actively coaching, assessing, and developing mechanical engineers toward technical authority and skill growth
  • Review and assure equipment care strategies, maintenance deferrals, and compliance with engineering standards, change management processes, and safety requirements
  • Guide the team in identifying and addressing equipment threats and bad actors using structured processes like MTO and MEC
  • Ensure engineering deliverables are met for turnarounds and maintenance, including scope, planning, MOC, and documentation
  • Identify and implement reliability improvements and cost-saving tactics while supporting the broader vision of the Reliability Engineering Leadership Team

It is part of the Pemex group, a fully integrated oil company in the Americas, working across the entire value chain: exploration, production, industrial processing/refining, logistics, and marketing.
