Maintenance Mechanic

Whippany Actuation Systems has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Maintenance Mechanic who has skills in multiple trades and who thrives in a fact paced work environment. In this role you will have the opportunity to perform general maintenance work to maintain structures, electrical systems, small machines, plumbing systems, carpentry, and more for the facility. You will also be tasked with managing departmental supplies inventory and chemicals for the facility.

In this role, you will typically:



  • Performs general building repairs, constructs shelving, shop benches, partitions, etc.
  • Uses Computerized Maintenance Management System to follow preventive maintenance (PM) program to perform daily, weekly, quarterly, and semi-annually Ps.
  • Under the guidance of higher graded mechanics, you will troubleshoot and perform simple repairs to manufacturing and HVAC equipment.
  • Uses mechanical and electrical devices, hand machines/equipment, and machine & power tools necessary to perform required maintenance work.
  • Make recommendations, identify sources and obtain quotes for parts including replacement and machine parts.
  • Assists with the coordination of outside contractors.
  • Moves equipment and furniture as directed.
  • Audits chemical inventory and notify management when supplies need replenishing.


We require:



  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • 2 years' facilities and equipment maintenance or mechanical experience or graduate of vocational technical high school program in building trades.
  • Basic knowledge of various trade (carpentry, plumbing, electrical) fundamentals sufficient to deal with general repairs.
  • Ability to use mechanical & electrical devices and hand tools.
  • Authorization to work in the US



Eligibility Requirements:

This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. Whippany Actuation Systems will require proof of status before employment.

We would really like to see:



  • Facilities maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Trade school certifications in carpentry, electrical, HVAC and/or plumbing are preferred
  • Demonstrate the ability to diagnose and repair a variety of problems with production machinery, equipment and building systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Internet navigation.
  • Ability to read, interpret and follow schematics and blueprints
  • Strong organizational skills, detail oriented and able to prioritize installation and repairs of equipment
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision


Physical Requirements



  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs
  • Must be able to bend, reach, lift and pull items
  • Must be able to ambulate up and down stairs
  • Must be able to walk and/or stand for long periods of time
  • Requires using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls
  • Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable
  • Requires exposure to hazardous equipment
  • Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment
  • Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions
  • Requires exposure to hazardous conditions


Benefits and Compensation

The pay rate for this position at commencement of employment is $24.06 per hour. If hired, employee will be an "at-will position."
