Flange Machine Shop Supervisor will directly supervise, coordinate, and plan the activities of CNC Flange Machinists in the facing, milling, and drilling of multiple sizes of ductile iron pipe fittings through the operation of different types of CNC machines. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES include the following:
- Follow all processes and procedures associated with the Tyler Union Safety Management Program. Adhere to Company safety rules and regulations and work safely at all times.
- Plan department machining by studying work order part quantities needed; study part prints; understand engineering improvement plans; and provide a positive approach for job changes to employees.
- Analyze job scope and engineering part prints to determine information for finished machined parts such as type of fixture to be used, type of operations to be performed, and sequence of operations required for best efficiency practice while cutting controlled costs where possible.
- Schedule jobs in coordination with the production activities. Plan machine setups with stock inventory counts to determine part quantity available - match up part order runs with work orders; anticipate needed machined stock; placing and expediting machine production orders for nonstock or out of stock parts; verifying receipt of raw materials and finished machined parts.
- Help train and perform machine set-ups on mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; trimming heads.
- Program mills and lathes from scheduled jobs by programming machines, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.
- Verify machine optional stop setup settings by measuring position distance to go on each tool every time, to help prevent mistakes in programming resulting in machine crash.
- Verify first piece part is good or make necessary dimension adjustments of workpieces. If part is not in tolerance, make adjustments and check next part 100% for accuracy of part to print.
- Maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations, taking measurements, detecting malfunctions, troubleshooting processes, adjusting and reprogramming, sharpening, purchasing, and replacing worn tools, and adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
- Be a champion in the commitment to 5S organizational goals, accept ownership for new projects / engineering requests, and explore trial and sample opportunities to add value to machine department growth.
- Maintain safe operations by adhering to machine safety warning signs, procedures, and plant safety regulations.
- Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements and logs following manufacturer's instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling CNC maintenance personnel or CNC technician for repairs.
- Responsible for employee's maintaining a clean working environment, wiping down machines, mopping, maintain employee order and discipline throughout the Flange Shop.
- Demonstrate positive continuous effort to improve efficiency while working cooperatively with team members and other departments.
- Participate in continuous improvement meetings to bring up initiatives with your team, your immediate manager, and engineering.
- Maintain continuity among different work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs of other shifts.
- Document machine control operator actions by completing production, quality, and personnel discipline logs.
- Update supervisor job knowledge by participating in educational professional development opportunities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Two or four-year degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of work-related experience, on-the-job training, and/or vocational training required.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience required.

- Must understand CNC programming logic G and M codes, ability to troubleshoot / edit programs, and program machines with proper speeds and feeds with ceramic and carbide tooling to help reduce cycle times where permissible.

Additional Information
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Directly supervise CNC Flange Machinist personnel. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Tyler Union policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
