The opportunity

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a student employee to fill the role of Library Student Supervisor. This role will work with professional staff supervisors to mentor, monitor and develop student employees within the library. Student Library Assistant Supervisor at our campus location. This leadership-oriented role supports the professional development of student employees, ensures high-quality service for library users, and collaborates with library staff on operations and programming. Library Assistant Supervisors are the first point of contact for users of the Shapiro Library floor and are expected to demonstrate initiative, professionalism, effective communication, and the ability to engage respectfully with users from diverse backgrounds. Supervisors should also be highly detail oriented, and demonstrate a commitment to teamwork, as well as responsibility and flexibility, especially regarding work schedules. This position offers hands-on experience in leadership, communication, teamwork, critical thinking, technology use, and career and self-development, while fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Mentor, monitor, and support the training of new student library assistants, helping them build job skills and confidence.

  • Respond to in person inquiries with accurate information and a high degree of skill; maintain familiarity with Shapiro Library services, policies, and other units within the Wolak Library Learning Commons (WLLC).

  • Help users navigate the Shapiro Library homepage and direct them to other campus resources.

  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and respectful environment for student employees and users.

  • Assist in organizing and executing library projects and events, including seasonal and book displays.

  • Confidently refer complex questions to appropriate library or WLLC staff.

  • Oversee accurate circulation of materials and ensure compliance with library policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrate accuracy and strong attention to detail when shelving library items and shelf reading collections; maintain familiarity with the Library of Congress classification system.

  • Protect user privacy by maintaining the confidentiality of patron records.

  • Support Information Desk Supervisors with daily operations

  • Act as the lead student contact during evening and weekend shifts.

  • Contribute to the upkeep and cleanliness of the library facility, ensuring a welcoming environment.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications :

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program at SNHU

  • Proficiency in English and strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Punctual, courteous, respectful, reliable and professional

  • Willingness to learn and grow

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in customer service or office environment a plus

  • Basic computer troubleshooting skills

  • Previous library experience

  • Significant experience working on a team

Work Hours:

Varies; nights, mornings, and weekends are required. Shifts available M-F 8:30am-7:30pm and Sunday/Saturday: 11:30am-7:30pm

Weekly Hours not to exceed 20 hours

Learning Outcomes:

Students will receive customer service and user experience training and will operate within a directed team environment. They will also gain operational knowledge of library systems, policies and procedures, and general library skills such as the Library of Congress shelving system and FOLIO ILS.

Compensation

The hourly pay range for this position is $12.00 - $15.00. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations.
