We seek a Release Train Engineer with some Systems Engineering experience for a software and operations program that operates using the SAFe Agile framework. We need a skilled agilist and engineer to organize and facilitate Program Increment (PI) planning events ensuring alignment and collaboration among teams to deliver value to our national security client. The ideal candidate thrives on attention to detail, agile project management, integration, and operation activities.

Note: US citizenship and an active TS/SCI clearance is mandatory for this position and required for consideration. Consideration to acquire CI Poly possible.

Location: Herndon, Virginia

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and oversee the Agile Release Train with key responsibilities of facilitating agile ceremonies (in person and remote), removing impediments, managing risks, and ensuring the successful delivery of value.
  • The RTE will use lean principals to work with leadership and coach teams on Lean-Agile practices, foster collaboration, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Adapt the SAFe Agile processes to meet our project requirements and collaboratively plan and execute our Sprint and Program Increments using Jira, Big Picture, and Confluence.
  • Clearly document requirements and agile features and stories, focusing on succinct descriptions, acceptance criteria, prioritization, and test/verification approaches and steps.
  • Create enablers and communicate with multidisciplinary teams and articulate technical concepts and ideas effectively.
  • Audit team JIRA features and stories to ensure documented work meets customer requirements; interact with customer's Agile team as needed to ensure synergies.
  • As needed, pivot to support systems engineering activities such as engineering documentation and IVT (integration, Verification, and Test)

Skills Required

  • 4+ years of technical experience supporting custom software solutions for the intelligence community, geospatial context, and/or big data analytics
  • 2+ years of demonstrated success using Jira with SAFe agile teams for planning for roadmaps, program increments, sprints, and burndown
  • Demonstrated proficiency with these skills: Jira, Confluence, Excel
  • Able to succinctly capture and communicate agile metrics, to include team and train velocity, lead times, and predictability using Jira report and Microsoft office tools
  • Keen attention to detail and taking tasks to appropriate closure.
  • Capable of working effectively with a geographically distributed ops & development team
  • Communicates effectively with customers and team in written and oral forums
  • Must be flexible, organized, and understand the big picture but can focus on the mission-critical details
  • Willingness to work onsite 80% or as needs dictate
  • Willing to travel locally on occasion
  • Active TS/SCI clearance and US citizenship
  • 4-year degree or equivalent demonstrated experience in a field such as Project Management or Engineering

Additional Skills Desired

  • Some familiarity in these areas would be fabulous.
  • Experience and enthusiasm for in-person and remote agile Increment Planning events
  • Agile mindset with experience or certifications with agile, scrum, kanban, SAFe, scrummaster techniques
  • Familiarity with common software tools, government operations, and DevSecOps.
  • Experience as a military/intelligence analyst, supporting the military/IC, or knowledge of some IC PED systems is a plus!

The successful candidate's starting pay will fall within the salary range provided below and is determined based on job-related factors, including, but not limited to, the experience, qualifications, knowledge, skills, geographic work location, and market conditions. Candidates with the minimum necessary experience, qualifications, knowledge, and skillsets for the position should not expect to receive the upper end of the pay range.

The base pay for this position within California, Colorado, Hawaii, New Jersey, and the Washington, DC metropolitan area is:

$90,000.00 - $130,000.00

For all other states, we use geographic cost of labor as an input to develop market-driven ranges for our roles, and as such, each location where we hire may have a different range.
