Description

The Director of Risk Analytics and Innovation plays a pivotal role within the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) organization, serving as a senior leader and strategic advisor. This position is essential in shaping the Bank's risk management framework by leading the development of advanced risk analytics capabilities and driving the technology strategy. Reporting directly to the CRO, the Director will not only modernize risk management through data-driven insights and innovative technologies but also enhance process automation initiatives. By collaborating with senior leaders across the Bank, the Director will strengthen the Bank's risk analytics infrastructure, promote data-informed decision-making, and foster a culture of innovation, ultimately advancing the Bank's risk-aware culture.

Position Accountabilities

Risk Analytics Leadership



  • Build and lead a high-performing team of professional that enables the risk analytics and innovation strategy of the Bank.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the CRO on analytics, automation, and technology matters related to the risk organization.
  • Foster collaboration and partnership across the risk organization and with other senior leaders in the Bank.
  • Implement advanced risk models and analytics frameworks aligned with the Bank's risk management program and related risk appetite statement.
  • Establish the strategy for and deliver on data, and analytics initiatives
  • Partner with the senior leadership to identify or develop tools that enable advanced capabilities to assessment, monitoring, and escalating risks within the Bank.
  • Design, develop and maintain the data model, databases and data sets needed with sustainable, best practice solutions and advocate with Information Technology partners on appropriate systems and platforms.
  • Ensure data quality, governance, and integrity in all risk analytics initiatives.
  • Deliver strategic risk insights and reporting to executive leadership and the Board Risk Committee.
  • Coordinate with Risk leaders to direct the strategy and development of dynamic reporting dashboards for key risk indicators (KRIs) across various risk domains.
  • Enable the delivery of timely and accurate reporting of KRIs to executive leadership and Board Risk Committee
  • Determine the strategy for the utilization of data visualization tools to present risk insights in an actionable format.
  • Ensure data and analytics can support a continuous monitoring


Innovation and Technology Strategy



  • Define and execute the technology roadmap for the CRO organization through coordination with Information Technology.
  • Ownership of implementation and administration of risk management systems and technology.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of risk management systems, data, and technology.
  • Evaluate and implement emerging technologies to enhance risk management capabilities.
  • Direct the department specific Identity and Access Management process for systems and software that are decentralized.
  • Partner with IT, data governance, and business units to ensure seamless integration of risk systems and tools.
  • Champion a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and agility within the risk function.
  • Identify and prioritize opportunities for automation within risk management processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
  • Assist the broader Enterprise Risk Management team in evaluating risk objectives to creatively identify/define analytics that can improve the efficiency of and target risks areas
  • Conduct data analysis in support of key risk assessments, draw insights from the analysis, communicate key findings/issues/concerns, and make recommendations based on the output to drive appropriate actions
  • Deliver innovative reporting and dashboards while ensuring automation, timely delivery and other quality standards are maintained


Organizational Relationship

This position reports to the Chief Risk Officer and works closely with the board risk management team as well as with all members of the first and third lines of defense, including senior and executive management.

Position Qualifications

Education & Experience



  • A Bachelor's Degree in a technology, data science, computer science, finance, math or business administration area of study and 10+ years equivalent work experience, preferably in the areas of data analytics or data warehousing. Master's Degree preferred
  • Ten years of defining and implementing data and business intelligence strategy and best practices
  • Ten years of team development, mentoring, and management
  • Ten years of analysis and data/BI life cycle experience, including documenting business requirements and/or functional specifications in a data warehousing environment
  • Ten years of experience using business intelligence and query tools, including working with SQL and writing SQL queries and scripts required
  • Ten years of experience in a financial institution or related field preferred
  • Professional designation in the field of technology, analytics, or similar

  • Demonstrated ability to interact with executive management, the Board of Directors, external auditors and regulatory agencies with tact and diplomacy while achieving stated objectives.
  • Proven leader with an ability to inspire and lead across functional teams to achieve a unified vision with measurable outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing and changing priorities.
  • Advanced technology skills including relational database concepts, data analysis & visualization software, SQL, Python, and similar technology
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and frameworks.
  • Excellent analytical, mathematical, evaluative and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Highly self-motivated and directed
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks while under high pressure and deadlines
  • Understanding of basic financial statements and accounting principles and procedures
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment


Salary offered will be based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. This position is also eligible to participate in either an applicable incentive compensation plan for the position or a discretionary profit sharing bonus program.
