Student Employee - Chemistry or Instructional Materials Center (IMC)

Hourly Rate: $15.00

The Chemistry or Instructional Materials Center
(IMC) Student Employee position is an on-campus, part-time, 19 hour-or-less per week, temporary/seasonal
appointment. Some positions may require federal work study. The work schedule
is dependent upon departmental needs and employee's availability, typically work
hours are between 8 AM - 5 PM, Monday thru Friday.

Essential Job
Functions:

  • Prepare solutions at specified concentrations under supervision.
  • Coordination of chemicals, supplies, and equipment for several labs.
  • Cleaning and maintenance checks of equipment.
  • Conducting periodic inventories.
  • Assist with proper disposal of chemical or biohazardous waste.
  • Packaging of on-line supplies.
  • Glassware and lab clean-up.
  • Safety compliance checks.
  • Assist with completing forms in accordance with department procedures.
  • Work independently and efficiently.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Minimum
Requirements:

  • Meet all eligibility requirements for student employment as determined by Financial Aid. Some positions may require Federal Work Study.
  • One year of high school chemistry or biology, or one semester of college level chemistry or biology.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal background check with fingerprinting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and over the phone. Excellent spelling, grammar, and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to work with individuals from various backgrounds.
  • Maintain confidentiality, be punctual, communicate changes in work schedule in advance.
  • Appropriate attire as discussed for the work environment.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • In an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work restrictions for employers (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend his/her SURS annuity upon employment. This applies to all SURS annuitants except those receiving their annuity under either the Self-Managed Plan (SMP) or by lump sum payment.
