Join IFF's Nutrition & Biosciences Process R&D team in Wilmington, Delaware, as a Sr. Technician I and contribute to the development of innovative biotechnological processes. This role is ideal for a hands-on technician with a strong background in process operations, mechanical systems, and laboratory experimentation. You'll work closely with scientists and engineers to support experimental design, operate and maintain lab-scale and pilot-scale equipment, and help bring new technologies to life.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute laboratory and pilot-scale experiments in support of process development projects.
- Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain a variety of process equipment, including reactors, mixers, pumps, solid/liquid separation units.
- Collaborate with scientists and engineers to set up experiments, collect data, and interpret results.
- Apply mechanical and technical skills to configure and optimize experimental setups.
- Document experimental procedures, observations, and results with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Assist in the development and revision of SOPs and safety documentation.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to process optimization efforts.
- Work closely with a lead technologist to receive hands-on training and facilitate knowledge transfer as part of succession planning.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in engineering, biotechnology, or a related technical field, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in a laboratory, pilot plant, or manufacturing environment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with process equipment (e.g., reactors, mixers, pumps).
- Familiarity with process safety principles, safe handling of hazardous materials in a production and/or an R&D environment, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in polymerization reaction, polymer processing and handling.
- Understanding of instrumentation, data collection systems, and feedback loops.
- Familiarity with chemical compatibility for selecting materials for construction, including elastomers, metals, and plastics.
